History
Sources say that Rebecca Webb Carranza is responsible for this fun and crispy snack. During the 1940's while working in a Los Angeles factory that her and her husband owned, she recognized that there were many misshaped tortillas coming from their automated tortilla machine. Instead of throwing them away, they were cut into triangles, fried, and sold for a dime a bag by the El Zarape Tortilla Factory.
In 1994, Carranza even received the Golden Tortilla award for her contribution to the Mexican food industry. She died in 2006 at the age of 98.
