Healthcare in the US continues to rise as a major issue. This is one of the dominant issues in the 2008 election.
Estimates show that 40 million or more are without health incurance. Conservatives will argue that people should pay for their own health care like they do for other commodities.
The problem is that the cost of health insurance in the US is frighteningly high. How can any family afford to pay over $10,000 per year for coverage that is substandard even at that cost?
My position is that we need a healthcare system in the US that is paid for by taxes, preferrably sales taxes. That way a person buying one of those giant cars that drinks a whole lot more gas would pay more for healthcare taxes than a person with a moderately sized car.
