Natural Anti-aging Tactics for Baby Boomers, and Everyone Else

Natural anti-aging is a great passion of 'Baby Boomers,' and everyone else who is concerned about extending the quality and vitality of their years. Aging or degeneration of the body occurs somewhat with the passing of time and is part of the natural cycle of birth and death. Other aspects of the aging process are believed to be controlled by genetics and other aspects are influenced by our environment.

Clearly then, many of the age-related degeneration of our bodies can be slowed down so that 'Baby Boomers' may age a bit more gracefully and with more of a command of our strength and vitality.

"Prevention is the best medicine," is a well known expression and it's true. But no one wants to live life from the perspective of preventing something devastating. Anti-aging baby boomers often simply try to live their lives and get as much enjoyment out of it as they can. Approaching your body as a system or an elegant machine that responds to what you put into it is a good way to think about how to preserve its good working order well into the future. If you had an automobile that you loved you would wash it all of the time and admire it. You would be very careful about where you parked it, and you would be mindful of the maintenance schedule to keep it in top running order.

Somehow, with our bodies, that same attention is not paid. The body is very resilient and if we should punish, abuse and neglect it when we are young it can take awhile before the effects of this treatment begin to show up in the form of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

Anti aging begins when we are young and continues throughout our lifetime. You can only prolong health and vitality by maintaining a nutritious diet eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, fish and plenty of clean water.

Exercise is also a vital key to keeping the body healthy and strong. If you find a sport or a form of exercise such as walking, running, bicycling or swimming and practice it consistently you will be building and maintaining your cardiovascular fitness, bone density and maintaining lean muscle.

Practices such as Yoga and Pilates are good for the body because you develop long, lean muscles; you learn to manage stress, increased mental focus and concentration.

If you think of your brainpower as a 'use it or lose it' resource, you'll be more mindful of the fact that you need to constantly provide new challenges to your brain to keep it sharp. If it's been more that a few years since you finished school, you might enroll in a class in a subject that you are curious about. Become engaged in the learning process and ask lots of questions.  Be committed to lifelong learning by reading a book a week.
