Many people are suffering from one of the many different types of arthritis. But what does this broad disease entail? Generally defined, arthritis means inflammation in the joints and is characterized by symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, inflammation, and stiffness. If you have been suffering from arthritis and have grown tired of the medications that have not worked, you may want to try natural remedies. Below are some examples of natural arthritis pain relievers that may be helpful to you:
Herbal Supplements
Some of the herbal treatments for arthritis are effective but not approved by the Food and Drugs Association. So consult your doctor first before purchasing any herbal supplement. Primrose oil contains an active ingredient called phenylalanine that has been used for chronic headaches and arthritis. The oil also contains the GLA that can reduce joint pains and swelling. It has also been found to be effective in treating people with rheumatoid arthritis.
Extracts of Devil's claw can also be used as a treatment for your chronic joint pains. It has anti-inflammatory agents that can help reduce the symptoms of arthritis such as pain, stiffness and the severity of the arthritis itself. It can be an effective remedy for your arthritis and has fewer of the side effects like headaches, diarrhea, constipation and ringing in the ears. You are not advised to take this if you have problems with blood thinning though as it could potentially trigger the affliction. You can take it in forms of tincture, capsules or dried leaves that are made into tea.
You can also use another herbal remedy like Capsaicin that can relieve minor pains in joints and nerves. Capsaicin can be found and used as a topical treatment. It can be added to a bath or applied directly to the affected joints. Avocado and soybean extracts have also been found to be a natural joint pain reliever and can also increase the joints' range of motion.
Dietary Intervention
A balanced diet is always a good idea and this is especially true for people with arthritis. For people with arthritis, a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids is recommended. Dishes made of cold water fish like herring, sardines, tuna, mackerel and others are the richest sources of Omega-3. It is believed that Omega-3s can reduce pain and inflammation because of the active anti-inflammatory agents in it. You can also find Omega-3s in vegetables, beans, fruits and nuts. Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, cashew nuts and seeds like pumpkin seeds and flaxseeds are all examples of foods with Omega-3s.
Any of these natural arthritis remedies can be an effective treatment for your arthritis. However, most doctors do not recommend it so consult one first before proceeding with any of the above recommendations.
