Natural Baby Skin Care - Advice For Healthier, Happier Babies

Do you know what chemicals lurk in the baby skin care products sold today? I think you might be surprised, even horrified, at some of the harsh ingredients that go into making shampoos, bubble bath and creams.

I made this lens because I was worried about the potential dangers of some baby products. As a result, I switched to using natural baby skin care products on my daughter and she (and I) couldn't be happier.

Here's what I learned...

Natural Baby Skin Care Products Don't Contain Harsh Chemicals

You can't avoid using some sort of moisturiser, oil, shampoo or soothing cream when looking after your baby. So try to avoid using skin care products that contain detergents and other harsh chemicals.

Earth friendly baby products, like an organic red clover baby diaper care cream or a chamomile-based organic baby shampoo and bodywash, are just as effective.

When you have a new baby, you're typically too busy to read the list of ingredients on the skin care lotion or shampoo that you buy. But there are often some horrible chemicals lurking in the small print. For example:

Parabens: this group of chemicals are often used as preservatives in hair and skin cleansers (look for butylparaben, ethylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben). Its safety is being investigated in relation to cell mutation, toxicity, allergic reactions, and other health risks.

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate): this synthetic, which creates foam and bubbles, can cause allergic reactions, hair loss, flaky scalps and skin rashes. When combined with other chemicals it can also create carcinogens.Click Here For The Best Organic Baby Skin Care Products And Prices!

Lauramide DEA: another chemical used to create lather, this dries hair, is linked to skin allergies, scalp itching and dermatitis, and is being studied in relation to toxicity.

TEA (Triethanolamine): a detergent used in baby shampoos that is an irritant and toxic to human skin and the immune system.

One of the only ways to be sure that you're not putting your baby's skin at risk is to use an organic, naturally-produced alternative.

Your Guide to Natural Baby Skin Care Products

When you are thinking about purchasing baby skin care products, there are five main ingredients that you should look out for: chamomile, lavender, mandarin, calendula and red clover.

Each one of these has beneficial properties. The creams, lotions and bath products that use them are gentle, naturally fragranced and considered ideal for a baby's delicate skin.

Chamomile This natural ingredient has strong healing properties, so it is considered helpful for soothing dry or irritated skin. Skin care products that contain chamomile are also useful for treating baby eczema. Chamomile can be used at a baby's bathtime to soothe your child and the scent is also believed to help during teething.

Lavender This is considered ideal for helping babies get to sleep. Lavender has soothing properties that are perfect for any time of the day or night. In addition to its aromatherapy effects, creams and oils that use lavender also possess antiseptic, detoxifying and antibiotic properties.Click Here For The Best Organic Baby Skin Care Products And Prices!

Mandarin This fruity extract is perfect for calming and balancing the mood of your baby. Organic baby products that contain mandarin can also be useful in aiding sleep (like lavender above), and may aid digestion if an infant has colic, or is generally grizzly.

Calendula This is a popular herbal remedy typically used in skin care creams to treat wounds to the skin and to soothe sore or reddened skin. Calendula is an anti-inflammatory, so it's ideal for chafed skin.

Red Clover This is another natural anti-inflammatory ingredient. Natural baby skin care creams that contain red clover are considered beneficial for treating various skin irritations, such as nappy rash.
