Natural Non-Toxic Baby Wipes Comparison

The longer I've been a mom, the more I have researched and hunted for better baby products. Products that are non-toxic, less harmful, less chemical laden. Products that will not harm my children or the environment.

There are many parents who simply will always use disposable baby wipes and disposable diapers. It's hard to beat the convenience of disposable baby wipes. While switching to cloth baby diapers may be in my near future, for the past few years I have been using disposable natural baby wipes and disposable natural and more eco-friendly baby diapers. I have tried just about every brand out there and hopefully this lens will help other moms looking to make the switch from conventional baby wipes to a less toxic alternative for their precious little ones.

Check Out How These Brands of Baby Wipes Compare To Traditional Wipes on The Skin Deep Database...You'll Be Shocked At the Different Toxicity Levels!

When you think of the sheer amount of disposable baby wipes and diapers that a child goes through, not to mention the sheer amount of time that those products interact with their sensitive skin and developing immune systems, it makes sense to pick the best brand you can find for your darling baby. This lens is the low-down on the different non-toxic baby wipes out there and how they compare with one another.

To give you a frame of reference, before I switched to eco-friendly non-toxic baby wipes, I was an avid user of Pampers Sensitive Extra Thick wipes. So as I compare wipes brands, I am not comparing these eco baby wipes to the cheapy-cheap options. Both of my kids had bad reactions to using Huggies and some of the other conventional brands which prompted my switch to Pampers Sensitive...until I found a much better alternative in non-toxic chlorine free wipes. And later on in this lens...I'll tell you my current favorites.

A Brief Update I've exclusively been using ONLY chlorine free baby wipes or my own cloth wipes for a couple years now. I recently ran out of chlorine free wipes and had to run to the the closest store that was open to get my old pre-chlorine-free standby, Pampers Sensitive baby wipes. After months of using chlorine free baby wipes (most recently Earth's Best, BabyGanics and California Organics), I have to say that the conventional wipes felt FAR inferior all around. I couldn't believe the difference. The Pampers actually felt somehow less clean (maybe more chemically?) and did not do as good of a job at cleaning up. Can't wait to get more chlorine-free wipes! I was already convinced that the less toxic route was the way to go, but I am for sure NEVER going back!

Seventh Generation Natural Baby Wipes

Chlorine Free Baby Wipes By Seventh Generation

Functionally, these Seventh Gen Baby wipes work pretty well. I like them and will buy them in a pinch and I like that they carry them at some major retailers. They are one of the easiest brands to find locally.

I will say that I have found them to be a little hit and miss. Sometimes the Seventh Generation wipes seem a little more dried out than at other times. This can be helped by just adding a little water and then they are fine. I have gotten them before and loved them and at other times found them to be just so-so.

All around, a fairly good option for eco-friendly wipes. They work well and are reasonably priced. Also, I have never had diaper rash problems while using these wipes on either of my children. I have also heard other parents rave about Seventh Generation Baby Wipes.

The Low Down of Seventh Generation Baby Wipes

How Seventh Generation Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Seventh Generation baby wipes are chlorine free.
  • 2These baby wipes are also free of dyes and fragrances and are also hypoallergenic.
  • 3Cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose is the cleaning agent used in Seventh Generation baby wipes, which is a plant-based renewable resource, thus better for the environment.
  • 4Seventh Generation donates 10% of their profits to other organizations working towards positive change.
  • 5These baby wipes have a nice texture against baby's skin. They are not quite as moist as some of the more conventional baby wipes, but they work well and are fairly comparable in terms of the way they feel and how they work and function as a baby wipe. In other words, you probably wouldn't have a hard time switching from a conventional baby wipe to these chlorine-free baby wipes. As an added bonus, you'd be helping the environment and providing your baby with a less toxic alternative by using these Seventh Generation chlorine free baby wipes.

NatraCare Baby Wipes with Organic Cotton

NatraCare has the biggest leg up on the competition in that they are made with organic cotton. Can you really beat an organic cotton, disposable baby wipe if you're going the disposable route?

Of all the brands, NatraCare has some of the best characteristics to boast about, but I will say they are not my favorite. I don't think they are a very economical choice. If price were not an option, that might affect my opinion, but I'm trying to weigh frugality with functionality and toxicity here.

Functionally, I think the NatraCare wipes could be a little bigger and a little thicker. They work fine, but I feel like you're paying for the advantages of the wipes, not the functionality. For the price, I want to see more in a baby wipe. Other than the great benefits to these wipes, I wouldn't pick them. I hate to even say that, because it seems like NatraCare has some really great things to offer.

The Low-Down on NatraCare Organic Cotton Baby Wipes

How NatraCare Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1These wipes are pure organic cotton baby wipes.
  • 2NatraCare Organic Wipes are made without synthetic preservatives and are alcohol free.
  • 3NatraCare Wipes are also completely chlorine free.
  • 4These organic cotton baby wipes are also made without parabens and SLS.
  • 5NatraCare Organic Cotton Wipes are made with organic apricot oil, chamomile, and linden.
  • 6NatraCare wipes are also made with only plant-based, biodegradable ingredients and without perfumes, additives that irritate, or petroleum and mineral oil extracts.
  • 7The downside? These wipes are pricey, even on Amazon.

Earth's Best Chlorine Free Baby Wipes

Earth's Best wipes are one of my current go-to brands of wipes. These wipes are what I consider a "total package" kind of wipe.

The price is reasonable for a eco-frienly baby wipe, especially if you sign up for a subscription through Amazon Mom (although there have been recent complaints of a price hike, so make sure you're getting a deal before subscribing). Also, these Earth's Best baby wipes work really well. They are a decent size and thickness and work great. I have found them to be very consistent. I wish I had found them when my firstborn was a baby. I haven't found a downside with these.

The Low-Down on Earth's Best Baby Wipes

How Earth's Best Chlorine Free Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Earth's Best Chlorine Free Baby Wipes are hypoallergenic.
  • 2Made with natural aloe vera and vitamin E for softness.
  • 3Earth's Best Baby wipes are totally chlorine-free.
  • 4These chlorine free baby wipes are very affordable and are one of the most viable and available options for a natural baby wipe alternative. You can find them at some major retailers, like Babies R Us, however, they are cheapest on Amazon.
  • 5Earth's Best Baby Wipes are also alcohol free, which means they do not dry out baby's delicate skin.
  • 6Earth's Best wipes are also pretty moist, so would make a very good transitional baby wipe for someone wanting to switch from a brand like Pampers or Huggies. These are my personal favorites, although I have used and would use many of these brands again.

Changing your brand of baby wipes is one of the easiest changes you can make to go a little bit greener, and remove some toxins from your baby's life. Baby wipes are one of the things your little one will come in contact with over and over again....what a simple change!

Nature Baby Care Eco-Sensitive Baby Wipes

Extra-Sensitive Unscented Baby Wipes by Nature BabyCare

Note: There is some controversy recently over Nature BabyCare wipes. Some customers have said that Nature BabyCare has changed their formula and the wipes aren't as good. The last time I used them I did not experience the problems mentioned, however, I often rotate which wipes I use and I haven't used these in the past couple months so the problem may be more recent. While these are one of my favorites, I would try at your own risk or contact the retailer to ask questions before purchasing.

The Low-Down on Nature BabyCare Eco-Sensitive Baby Wipes

How Nature BabyCare Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Nature BabyCare Eco-Sensitive wipes are chlorine free and because of this do not contribute to dioxin pollution.
  • 2The packaging for Nature BabyCare wipes are based on 100% compostable natural materials and the wipes are 100% biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

  • 4These baby wipes are also 100% alcohol free and also free of other harsh ingredients.
  • 5Nature BabyCare wipes are made of sustainable unbleached wood pulp and the moisture in them comes from natural aloe vera and purified water.
  • 6These natural baby wipes are also flushable, which makes them great for potty training toddlers!

BabyGanics Thick N' Kleen Ultra Sensitive Baby Wipes

Extra Gentle and Hypoallergenic Babyganics Baby Wipes

The Low-Down on BabyGanics Thick N' Kleen Ultra Sensitive Baby Wipes

How California Organics Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1BabyGanics Thick N' Kleen Ultra Sensitive Baby Wipes have no chlorine, no parabens and no toxins.
  • 2These BabyGanics baby wipes are the thickest baby wipes I've ever seen, including conventional baby wipes. Twice I have accidentally washed a bunch of them with my cloth diapers and they have come out completely intact both times after a cycle through the washer and dryer. They were so intact that I've been able to reuse them with my own wipes solution a second time. That is how thick BabyGanics wipes are functionally!
  • 3BabyGanics wipes are fragrance free, extra gentle and hypoallergenic. My baby is extremely sensitive to wipes and these do not bother her at all.
  • 4Functionally, the container of BabyGanics baby wipes is probably the best container of the non-toxic wipes that I have found. They come in reusable bags with a solid snap-top lid that opens and closes, rather than a dinky resealable tape-like lid. These wipes are easier to get in and out because of the lid.
  • 5Some people have said that these BabyGanics baby wipes leave a lint residue on baby, but after months of using them with our baby, I have yet to experience this phenomenon.
  • 6These wipes are also earth-friendly as they are biodegradable.
  • 7Brief update: Ironically, right after I posted this lens I did experience 1 or 2 packages where some of the wipes left the linty residue that people were talking about, however, this has not been the norm in my experience and seemed isolated to just the 1 or 2 packages and not with all of the wipes in the packages affected. I will continue to update, but that has seemed to be an isolated event. It was slightly annoying, but was still not that big of an inconvenience. It would not hinder me from buying this brand.

California Organics Baby Wipes

Organic Aloe Baby Wipes with Calendula and Chamomile by California Organics

California Organics Sensitive Baby Wipes

The biggest downside of these wipes is that they can be hard to find and are on the more expensive side. I think they're great in a pinch if you can find them and I would use them again. They have a lot of features that make them boast-worthy...if you can find them.

The Low-Down on California Organics Baby Wipes

How California Organics Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1California Organics brand are sensitive baby wipes, and are made with organic aloe, organic calendula and organic chamomile.
  • 2These wipes are paraben free.
  • 3California Organics wipe are also alcohol free and chlorine free and do not use artificial colors or harsh preservatives.
  • 4These "Organic Aloe" baby wipes are also hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free.
  • 5The fabric of California Organics baby wipes is 100% biodegradable fabric.
  • 6California Organics uses natural chalk as the basis of their packaging.
  • 7The downside is that these wipes are very hard to find. If you live in the south, they are sold at H-E-B grocery stores, but it's very hard to find them online.
  • 8These wipes are very comparable in feel to the Seventh Generation Chlorine-Free baby wipes, but are slightly thinner and potentially could tear easier, but are durable enough for the average diaper change. I will say that I've used them quite a bit when I run out of my other wipes and as thins as they seem, they actually do not tear. Again, these wipes are very comparable to conventional wipes and would be an easy switch for the parent used to conventional brands in terms of wipe-ability.
  • 9The downsides are twofold: 1) that they are thin on the small side. I find myself using multiple wipes to get the job done and they are already slightly more pricey. 2) They only come in a small size, so it's a little hard to get them out of the refill-style container. If you don't mind smaller, thinner wipes, these are awesome in every other way. I would potentially put them in another container if I bought them more frequently, such as a Huggies container...they seem to have the best containers for easy grabbing.

Elements Naturals 100% Natural and Compostable Baby Wipes

Possibly THE best baby wipes I've ever tried. I absolutely loved these wipes and can't find one negative thing to say about them other than their extremely steep price point. Elements Naturals would be my go-to wipe if I could afford them. I have to wonder how many parents can afford these...let's hope Elements Naturals grows in popularity very soon and is able to significantly drop their pricing. I did notice recently that they are cheaper on Amazon than any other place I have found them. Alas, these are special occasion wipes for this family. But try them if you can...you won't be sorry!

The Low-Down on Elements Naturals Baby Wipes

How Elements Naturals Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Elements Naturals baby wipes are 100% natural and compostable.
  • 2These natural baby wipes are chlorine-free, chemical free and fragrance free.
  • 3Elements Naturals baby wipes are made in the USA and are made from plants, not oil.
  • 4The price is higher than other natural baby wipes. They get fantastic reviews and they are worth it if you have the extra money to spend on baby wipes.

Bum Boosa Bamboo Baby Wipes

Natural Scented Baby Wipes Made with Bamboo

There is a lot to like about Bum Boosa bamboo baby wipes. They are a nice size, weight and texture. They work great and they are a safe for baby and an environmentally sustainable product. The biggest negative of Bum Boosa is the price. These wipes may work great, but they are just so darn expensive. Try Bum Boosa baby wipes if you can find them on sale.

Personally, there are 2 reasons I won't buy these wipes again, price aside. The first is that while they actually smell very good, the smell is too strong for me. (However, I am sensitive to things that smell strongly.) The second is that they may have given my baby a slight rash. I say may because I used these wipes while I was introducing her to a new food, so the rash could have been food related.

The Low-Down on Bum Boosa Bamboo Baby Wipes

How Bum Boosa Bamboo Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Bum Boosa baby wipes are made from renewable bamboo and are 100& biodegradable. Props to Bum Boosa for their sustainable wipes.
  • 2Scented with pure lavender and sweet orange essential oils, which are calming fragrances with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Also contains organic aloe vera.
  • 3Bum Boosa plants a tree for every package of Bum Boosa bamboo baby wipes purchased! Awesome! Trees are also planted to offset 100% of their carbon emissions.
  • 4Bum Boosa baby wipes are Alcohol free, paraben free, and sulfate free.
  • 5These non-synthetic sustainable bamboo baby wipes are made in the USA.
  • 6Price? Very high...even for natural baby wipes. This might be a case of getting what you pay for, because they are good wipes and they generally get very good reviews, but they definitely are out of reach of many concerned parents on price alone. Hopefully we will see the price drop in the future as Bum Boosa gains popularity.
  • 7These Elements Naturals baby wipes might be the only natural wipes that very easily separate from one another when changing your baby. They are also very thick, with the perfect amount of moisture and are a good size and texture for a baby wipe.

Whole Foods 365 Brand Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes

Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes from Whole Foods

365 Chlorine-Free wipes are a great go-to baby wipe if you live near a Whole Foods store. I found these to be an all-around good baby wipe and the price is reasonable for a natural baby wipe.

The Low-Down on Whole Foods 365 Brand Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes

How Whole Foods 365 Brand Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes Compare to Conventional Baby Wipes

  • 1Whole Foods 365 Chlorine-Free baby wipes are a pretty standard size and texture and also have a consistent and decent moisture level compared to other baby wipes.
  • 2Because these wipes are Whole Foods' 365 everyday low value brand, they are priced decently for a more natural baby wipe alternative.
  • 3The biggest downside is that you have to live near a Whole Foods store to find these wipes. Unfortunately, you can't buy them online.
  • 4Whole Foods 365 baby wipes are chlorine-free.

I recently bought a packet of Natracare baby wipes and discovered 'parfum' is listed as one of the ingredients. Very disappointed that a product which is meant to be organic would contain such an ingredient. See following link for further info on possible health risks: http://www.davidsuzuki.org/issues/health/science/toxics/fragrance-and-parfum/

Good job on the reviews of the natural baby wipes. I no longer have babies either, but I am sure this will help young mothers that want to use them. In my day we used wash clothes, soap and warm water. LOL.

I don't have a comment on the baby wipes-----but want to comment on your lens. I think your lens subject is very useful and informative. Keep up the good work, there are a lot more baby products that could be compared in the same manner.
