Miss Lily Bug's New Food

She likes it! She likes it!

I'm just kidding, Lily(for short) is not a horribly finicky eater. I really wasn't happy with the food she was on prior to this. She was very gassy and her coat wasn't as shiny as it should be. Her skin was also very dry. She looked like she had a constant case of dandruff. I did quite a bit of research on dog nutrition and learned most of these symptoms have to do with diet. So, I decided to give Natural Balance a whirl. (They have great prices too. Starting at $4.99 and go up from there!)

During my investigation this is what I found:

Are Organics Best For Your Dog?

It Is An Individual Choice

Just like our food, we have a choice for our dog food now. We can feed our best friends horrible by-products, preservatives, etc. We can also go organic. Organic Natural Balance dog food! There are no pesticides used, antibiotic and hormone free ingredients (chicken).

I know most of us are leaning towards organic products for our diets. Which sounds better to you, something that has been treated with pesticides, given multiple medications, penned up in small cages and fed disgusting by-products; or a chicken that has been raised free-range, fed antibiotic free and pesticide free food, and has been humanely treated?

My choice would be the Organic line. Your dog would probably choose that too!

Natural Balance Ultra-Premium Dry Food

Now any of these formulas you can use for all ages and stages of the life of your dog. There are adjustments to the amount you give him/her based on the circumstances. They even make a small breed formula! It is the same formula, just in smaller pieces for the petite ones!

Natural Balance Ultra-Premium Dry Food is truly all natural. They use premium quality meats (no by-products). The rest of the ingredients are:
Brown rice, fresh carrots, fresh potatoes, and oatmeal. It is also taurine (an organic or amino acid)fortified.

The point that this food is fortified with taurine is very important to me and close to my heart.
Our beloved Harley, a doberman pincher, died this past July 4th from Dilated Cardiomyopathy or DCM for short. This is an extremely deadly form of heart disease. We had no clue about this disease prior to his passing. He was trotting out to the garden with my husband and just dropped. He was gone within 5 minutes. My husband tried CPR, nothing helped. We learned of this disease afterwards. Knowing that taurine could have helped him makes me feel horrible. But we know now, and are doing our best to prevent it from happening with Lily.

This disease DCM is predominant in large breed dogs especially ones with deep chests. The deficiency of taurine in dogs has been found to correlate with DCM being present. So size and taurine deficiency are both factors in this deadly disease.

Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Formula

This Natural Balance formula contains 27% fewer calories than the Ultra-Premium formula. This formula is obviously for the overweight pooch!

It also contains Omega-3 and Omega-6. Linoleic Acid, Whole Ground Flaxseed, Vitamin E, Biotin and Kelp. These are used for healthy skin and coat.

I am always looking for better dog food. While lately I tend to prepare a lot of it myself, I have to give this a try. Nice lens.

You're right - I think we're just beginning to find out the junk they put in commercially-canned dog food. How can such poor quality food provide nutrition for any living being?
