All Natural Flu Virus Remedies....

This flu season think natural, and instead of turning to the drugstore to help you feel better, use the traditional old time remedies which have been so very useful in the past for helping to relieve those awful symptoms of the flu.

When you have the flu virus life can feel down and outright nasty. Chills, fever, nasal congestion, coughing, sneezing and wheezing..... Gosh, why suffer in silence. Over the counter and prescription medications can come with potentially hazardous side effects, while many common household foods, spices, and herbs can help to heal you just as well.

Natural flu remedies can be just as effective for relieving symptoms of the flu and most of these cold relief therapies can be found right in your kitchen cupboard. Regularly used for common household uses, these natural cold and flu remedies are well equipped for handling more than just your cooking needs, they are also very effective medications for that nasty old virus that we call the flu.

Why is bed rest so important for the flu?

Antibiotics are just not an effective treatment for the flu. So when you are struck by the influenza virus you are often pretty much left on your own to heal yourself. Your doctor will usually just advise you to go home, stay in bed, and drink plenty of fluids until you are feeling better.

Of course your doc is right when he says that getting a lot of rest is very important if you want to recover quickly and safely from the flu virus. Your body is busy using most of it's energy to make you well again so it is very important for you to take it easy while you are feeling under the weather.

It is vital not to put any additional stresses on your heart and lungs during this time. Listening to what your body is telling you is very important when you feel unwell. Your body usually knows best and if it says rest, then take it easy, and give your body the time it needs to heal itself.

Although your doctor's advice is sound, there are a few natural remedies which you can also use to help to relieve your flu symptoms.

These simple all natural flu remedies will not only help to relieve your flu symptoms but they may also help to prevent complications from your flu from occurring.

An excess of germs, bacteria, and far too much mucous pooling in places where it should not be are just not good things to have happening in your body. You want to stop these nasty flu symptoms before they turn into flu complications.

Use salt to help kill the germs and bacteria associated with the flu...

Salt water will help to kill germs, and bacteria, and promote healing of inflamed tissue. Gargle with warm salt water three to five times a day while you are ill with the flu to help kill the germs and bacteria in your mouth and throat area. Sniff warm salt water from your hand to help kill bacteria or germs in your sinus passages.

Use honey as a decongestant, dry throat soother, cough reliever, and antibacterial.

Honey is comprised of natural sugars and will give you energy when you need it most. Honey will also help to soothe your itchy dry throat. Studies have shown that a teaspoon of honey is as effective at killing a cough as are most over the counter decongestants.

Just put on the kettle and add one tablespoon of honey into a glass of the boiled water to create a soothing sweet beverage. For extra health benefits add in a tablespoon of lemon juice to this hot relaxing drink.

Honey is an antibacterial and will help to kill germs and bacteria. Honey will also help to sooth your tummy. Honey can aide in the regulation of good and bad bacteria within the intestinal tract. It is one of those amazing foods that could be stored as easily in the medicine chest as in the kitchen cupboard. Honey is good medicine for the flu.

Keep your air moist and your lungs free to help stop flu complications from occurring...

Although it is very important to rest while you are sick with the flu it is just as important to keep excess mucous from pooling within your lungs. Try to sit up, or get up, throughout the day. This movement will help to work any trapped mucous from your throat, and lungs, and help to prevent pooling within the lungs. Keeping excess phlegm in check will greatly aide in the prevention of possible complications that can occur with the flu virus.

If mucous has already pooled in your lungs you can use this deep breathing exercise to help relieve this congestion. Sitting on the side of your bed, standing, or sitting in a chair, breathe in as deeply as you can. Slowly exhale as much air as you are able to. Repeat this process another two or three times. On the last inward breath that you take, instead of slowly exhaling it out, quickly cough it out instead.

Repeat this deep breathing exercise until you have managed to expel the trapped mucous from your lungs.

If you find yourself severely congested, breath deeply within a warm shower, the steam can help to relieve the mucous and congestion that all too often accompany a bad bout of the flu.

Keep a vaporizer or humidifier going to help put additional moisture into your air. If you do not own either a humidifier or vaporizer you can still add moisture into your air by setting jars of water throughout your house. The air itself will absorb it. A pot of boiling water on the stove, or a running shower, will quickly add moisture to dry home air.

Are anti-microbial soaps better than regular soaps?

It was thought that anti-microbial soaps were better to use for germ control than regular bar, or liquid soaps, but this information has come under a strong storm of controversy as of late.

The active chemicals used within anti-microbial soap are designed to kill germs, and bacteria, but unfortunately they are also designed to randomly kill biological structures. This means that our human biological makeup is also at risk of being attacked by these harmful chemicals.......Are anti-microbial soaps better than regular soaps?

I get the flu once or twice a year. I'll save you my speech but I don't believe that the flu vaccine is a good idea. I never knew that you could use salt as a home remedy for the flu. There's some awesome solutions here! Thank you for helping to make the flu season a little easier for me.

Because I suffer from a chronic illness that has lung involvement it is vital for myself and others like me to get the flu shot each year. A cold or the flu is extremely dangerous for the elderly or disabled.

Great lens full of very useful information.
I agree with using salt water because it works!
Plenty of vitamins too to keep the immune system working.
Using vitamins and remaining healthy is far, far less expensive
then trying to combat a cold with expensive cold remedies
and then feeling miserable, can't breath, can't sleep and on and on.....
Go get some 1000mg vitamin C and some D3, fish oil, etc.

Really good advice. Echinacea is a really good herb to take too. Take it as soon as you feel a cold coming on. It will either prevent it completely or make it less severe if you take it once you already have a cold or flu.

Your lens is great! Full of interesting and useful info!
I had a bad cold just recently and because I'm allergic to a lot of antibiotics I didn't want it to develop further so I did almost everything you recommend, especially eating lots of garlic (thank goodness I could stay away from people) and I beat it fairly quickly.

Good tips on natural remedies ~ I totally agree with going natural in dealing with the flu. In fact, the best things is to be proactive, rather than reactive. That is, get proper nutrition through healthy food and supplements, and get moderate exercise!

These endorphins are feel good messages that have the power to actually remove physical and emotional pain. They travel down the spine, and then throughout your body, sending a feeling of well being as they go. Every day. I think they really help to keep me healthy.

KonaGirl says:

I take them to keep my immunity system working properly. Haven't had a cold or flu in years.

ajgodinho says:

There is a lot of scientific evidence that suggests that we must take quality nutritional supplements. The key word here is "quality" because more than half of supplements in the market today fall short. I take a full spectrum of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants and it's made a huge difference. I haven't had a flu for over 2 years now!

CliveAnderson says:

I take a few different things. Vitamin B and a Multivitamin as well as Cod Liver Oil.

ZablonMukuba says:

yeah i take vitamin supplements

says:

Yep and quite a few.

Never. I get my vitamins naturally through the foods that I eat.

awakeningwellness says:

I used to take a lot of vitamins but now I get my vitamins naturally by eating superfoods and green smoothies everyday, plus tons of veggies.

RitaK says:

I used to take supplements but I now prefer eating healthy, practicing meditation and exercise.
