Natural cures for menopause

As women age, hormone imbalances occur resulting in a host of unpleasant menopausal symptoms which accelerates the aging process.

For years, menopausal women relied on estrogen drugs to maintain youthful levels of this hormone.

Yet concern about the potentially life-threatening side effects of synthetic hormone drugs has caused many women to deprive themselves of the benefits of natural hormone replacement therapy.

One alternative to hormone replacement is phytoestrogens-natural estrogenic extracts from plants.

Introduction to Phytoestrogens and Phytoprogesterone

Certain plant foods and herbs have hormone-like properties

Some plant foods contain phytochemicals, known as phytoestrogens and phytoprogesterone.

Soy, Wild Yam, and Dong Quai, have hormone-like properties which can be beneficial to balancing hormones.

Wild Yam also contains a substance identical to a hormone produced in the adrenal glands, DHEA.

Higher levels of DHEA protect against obesity and cardiovascular disease.

The phytoestrogens contained in Dong Quai may help regulate oestrogen levels which in turn helps regulate hormone imbalance.

Some other herbs for menopause that may help treat menopause symptoms include dandelion, liquorice, black cohosh, motherwort, sarsaparilla, and false unicorn.

Some herbal supplements may suit an individual more than others, and therefore it would be wise to talk to your doctor or health care professional to find the most effective ones.
