Step #1 - Identify the Source of Your Stress and Eliminate It.

In order for you to become stress free... you need to develop a strong habit of stress management. And to do that... you can try some of the natural stress relief techniques that I will be telling you today on this Squidoo Lens.

And like they say... change is good! Well, if you are making positive changes of course!

So the first thing you should do is figure out what is causing the actual stress in the first place. The next obvious step is to see if you can eliminate that source of stress...

Well, let me clarify THAT! No, you can't bump anyone off if they are causing your stress. The police and prosecutor kind of frown on that... so that won't do at all...

However... you could change jobs... move to another location or figure out some way to avoid that particular source of stress.

And this advice isn't possible for most people because the stress could be coming from their family or jobs.

Then you need to move on to the next step which is to make a plan for managing your stress. and I'll make a couple of recommendations on the ways you can alleviate the symptoms of stress.

But at the beginning... if you can eliminate the source of your stress... it would be very helpful. For many folks it could be as simple as changing to a health conscious lifestyle to lose weight and keep it off.

For others, it could be learning new job skills to get promoted or become more hire-able at another location. Others many want to learn investment skills so you won't have to worry too much about money.

So the first step is to identify the source of your stress and anxiety and figure out creative ways to eliminate that stress from your life if possible.

Step #2 - Find the Natural Stress Relief Techniques that Works for You

This would be your next step to managing your stress levels. I can tell you what really works well for me... it is a combination of body weight exercises and walking around the block.

I try to do this every day... but I don't push it. The total time required to do my workout is between 30-45 minutes. It isn't really a whole lot of time.

You may have to drop some TV time... and why not? TV to me is a BIG waste of time... I read that the average TV viewer watches 4-8 hours of TV a DAY!! I'm talking average... many folks work hard all day... rush home and... PLOP on the sofa and zone out in front of the tube...

This is the main reason I got rid of my TV several years ago and I don't regret my decision... doing this one this made a lot of room in my available time to do the stuff that I always wanted to do...

Including taking care of my mental health and doing some moderate exercise program each day so that I can reduce the accumulated stress I pick up each day and besides... there is no greater gift you can give yourself to be healthy and alert year around!

So try walking... all you really need is some comfortable clothes and walking shoes. And walking itself is ideal for helping you get rid of stress because it allows your brain to go on auto-pilot. You could enjoy the scenary and notice things... like the birds and construction going on in your neighborhood.

Sometimes the weather isn't permitting... or you live in a congested city... well, you can go to the mall! Or a nearby park if it is well lighted and safe.

And walking is easier on your joints than the more impacting exercises... and you can do little things during your day to increase your walking time. Such as parking a little further away from the store or your job and... hiking it in!!

As always, be aware of how safe it is to walk... and the weather of course.

Some folks go all out a little and pick up a pedometer to measure their steps. That is up to you...

Step #3 - More Stress Relief Techniques to Try - Exercises

I realize that exercises isn't everyone's cup of tea. But the benefits of having a regular exercise plan leaves no doubt when it comes to handling stress or even panic attacks.

Your body responds to moderate exercise! Personally, I think people go all out and try to make it a routine... and get bored and disappointed with the lack of results.

Here's the thing... we all head the dreaded statistics that 67% of adults are either overweight or obese... that is just dreadful... and the major reasons of course is bad food choices and lack of regular exercises.

I suggest that you find some exercises that isn't streneous and you can do it everyday or at the very least 3 times a week.

As I said before, my favorite form of exercises is body weight exercises. And why? Well, first of all, I can do them in the privacy of my own home. It is easy to get started... just find a big enough space in the living room or bed room.

And the variety of body weight exercises that you can do is simply HUGE!! Go to Youtube and do some searches... there are lots of folks who will demonstrate body weight exercises that you can do...

But the key thing is to actually do it... that may be the hardest thing to do if you haven't done much for a while. Some of you who are out of shape or have medical issues... should definitely check with your doctor first!!

Other forms of exercises that you can try is riding your bicycle...

Yoga or Pilate. I would either rent out a beginners video or buy one at a Wal-Mart. Or take a beginners instructional class in town. It is a good way to meet other people who have similar interests as you.

Here's another oldie but goodie... learn to dance! It's fun and can be very social...

It doesn't matter to me whatever form of exercise you want to do... as long as you do them and in a consistent manner.

But don't feel like you have to go all out and do intense workouts... you could burn out and then stop doing them... like I said at the very beginning... you want to make these stress relief techniques a big part and permanent part of your new healthy lifestyle... that means forever!

warmly,

Kate :)

Everybody that I talked to has complained about stress. And it is simply wonderful when I can read an informative lens that actually has something to talk about rather than sell something.

So thank you for this lens!

I noticed that you said you preferred body weight exercises as a way to eliminate stress. I prefer playing sports and weights... but I'm sure if you do "something" as opposed to nothing, it is beneficial against the build up of stress.

    Great lens Kate!

I think you have done a wonderful job on presenting natural stress relief techniques on your lens. It's very informative and helpful. I particularly like the way you are able to show that it is just not the average everyday Joe that suffers from stress, anxiety and panic attacks. There are actors, actresses and all walks of life fighting this battle on a daily basis.

    Once again, fabulous lens.
