Oversleeping

Sleep Windows
A sleep window is a period of time the body says "I want to sleep now!" which shows by yawning, lack of energy and generally feeling tired. Often however we push our bodies through this window if we do not want to go to bed at that point making us miss this window. If we miss this window we stop feeling sleepy as our brain gears up for more work and then it becomes difficult to sleep until another window comes around again. Sporadically missing windows of sleep can affect the quality and quantity of sleep we get leading us to feeling sleepy all the time.

Sleep Cycles
When we are actually sleeping our brains are going through a complicated process which is called a sleep cycle. This begins with a light sleep but gradually our brains become slower and slower until we reach a very deep sleep which eventually ends as our brains start winding up again and then the cycle starts again. Most peoples sleep cycle are approximately four hours long allowing two cycles per night but this time can vary to be greatly shorter or longer depending on the person. If we awaken in the deepest part of our sleep it is like trying to start a car that is very cold and takes a lot of effort to get moving making us feel groggy and not giving the brain a chance to do the proper mental processes it needed to for good health and energy. If we wake at the wrong time we can be asking Why Am I Sleepy All The Time without knowing exactly why but the quality of the sleep is compromised because of it.
