The Beauty of Natural African American Hair

First, the African American typical natural hair style is tightly curled hair. The hair retains generally less water and that's part of the reason for the kinkiness. Now the funny thing is that most of the styles currently worn today and yesterday by African American women and some men styles will generally cause some concern for hair loss.

Based upon a short conversation with my sister-in-law and niece (whom are both in the hair industry, one a shop owner, the other studying to be), any chemical that goes on your hair can cause hair loss. But that's not all I found when doing some research, so let me share what I found.

Combing your hair can cause some hair loss. That's wild. But I remember back in the day with the Afro, I would sometimes find myself picking the loose hair out of my pick but I had to comb my fro. The reason for this is by pulling the hair with the pick or comb you are pulling the hair from the scalp, causing stress on both the hair and scalp with also causes dryness.

Cornrows can cause the hair line do recede if worn too long but I also found something else about this hair style. Cornrows because you're pulling the hair from the scalp again causes stress and remember that causes dryness and lost of hair. But if your cornrows are too tight and your scalp is sore that's called traumatic alopecia, and you know it's bad if they made up a name for it. But this is usually reversible with proper hair care.

Relaxers of any sort are not good for your hair either. But something I wanted to tell you about relaxer are. The lye used in some relaxer is the same lye used in DRANO. That's deep, my wife usually relaxes her hair a few times a year, and I believe but don't hold me to it. Tonight I'll share this with her and I don't expect her response to change or make her change. That's the same stuff that's advertised on TV to unclog drains. Get the connection.

In fact my sister-in-law said that she tells some of her clients that the chemicals are causing their hair to thin and eventually hair loss. But that doesn't change their hair style because,,,,we rather look good today and worry about tomorrow.
