Natural Beauty for Lips: Color and Care
The cutting edge trend in makeup for lips: lightweight, nourishing lip color in natural formulas.
Colorscience Lip Polish has the full color intensity and coverage of lipstick, but without the greasy artificial feel. In addition to the neutral peach shown here (right), it also comes in 11 other colors to flatter a variety of skin tones.
Perfect Organics Lip Shimmers (left) are vegan and all-natural. Use them on your lips and cheeks for a totally natural, sun-kissed healthy glow.
Lip Ink (right) is a unique eco-friendly liquid lip color. The color formula is "semi-permanent," meaning it has major staying power. But unlike most long-wearing lipsticks, Lip Ink does not dry out your lips or cause flaking. The trial size sampler kit includes your choice of liquid lip color, makeup removal towelettes, and a conditioning lip shine moisturizer. Choose from 56 lip colors, organized in 10 color categories. Full Color Lipstick vs. Lip Balm
I like intense color on my lips, but it's got to be natural.
Sometimes I mix a light lip stain with lipstick in a bold color that I wouldn't be as comfortable wearing on its own. I apply the lip stain directly to my lips first. Then I mix a little Vitamin E oil or cream with the darker lipstick and use my little finger to dot the mixture on over the lip stain. After rubbing my lips together a bit and cleaning up any smears, I'm all set.

Color! I like a tinted lip stain or gloss, at the very least.

Organic lipstick is amazing! It feels so good on your lips, and it doesn't dry out or flake off.
For natural lips with the full color and coverage of lipstick, I recommend Nvey Organic (listed above), Dr. Hauschka, or Bare Escentuals.

How to Choose a Natural Lip Color
Find a flattering natural color for your lips.

Cool blue-red undertones. Check the inside of your wrist: do you see hints of blue, rosy pink, or violet underneath the skin's surface? When you blush, do your cheeks turn pure pink? If so, your skin probably has cool undertones.

Peach tones. This is a common skin tone in people with golden blond, red or light brown hair and freckles.
Their skin tends to be light to medium in pigment, and when they've been out in the sun or get flushed cheeks from exercise, the color is closer to peach than pink.
Olive tones. If this is your coloring, the inside of your wrist will show subtle undertones of yellow-green and golden brown.

Bronze or reddish-brown tones. Some women with brown skin have warm undertones of golden bronze or red. If this is you, you probably have dark hair with lighter brown, golden or reddish highlights. Your best look for natural lips is a warm shade with hints of gold.
Makeup for Lips: Korres Color Collection
Your lips will love these natural beauty formulas.
For lip color that doesn't look garish or clash with your skin, go with a shade that flatters your particular skin tone. Next, I'll show you how to find the best shade for your lips.
Korres Cherry Full Color Gloss
My personal favorite. This liquid lip gloss is long-lasting and seriously gorgeous. It's available in eleven shades, some with a bit of glittery shimmer and others that are just pure color and shine. To adjust the intensity of the color, try layering it with lip balm or vitamin E oil.
Korres Natural Products Lip Butter .21 oz (6 g)
If you prefer a tinted lip balm with plenty of natural shine, this is a great choice. Stick it in your beach bag to keep your lips soft and smooth as velvet all day. Available in five delicious color tints: pomegranate (sheer peach), wild rose (berry stain), guava (sheer), quince (sheer pink), and plum.
Skin Tone Color Guide
Now that you know your skin tone, here is your natural lip color guide.
My skin is very fair with blue undertones, so the most flattering lip color for me is a pinkish-red. What I usually use is a natural mineral-based lip stain. The color is similar to how your lips look when you've been eating a strawberry or cherry popsicle.Cool Skin Tones
- For cool undertones, the best lip color choices are: rose, strawberry (pinkish-red), delicate light pink, blue red, true red (a rich deep red with no hints of orange or gold), blackberry (dark violet red; best in a lip stain).
- Avoid warm shades of red or peach with undertones of orange.
- If you have very fair skin, be aware that the most natural lips for you are not too dark. I love dark red lip color, but the contrast with my pale skin makes me look unhealthy.
- Women with darker skin can get away with more intense, dramatic lips.
Warm Skin Tones
- If your skin has olive tones, the best colors for your natural lips are: cinnamon, brick red, coral, sangria, deep chocolate brown (as a gloss).
- Peach-toned skin looks best with lips colored in any of the following shades: sheer coral, peach, light neutral pink (gloss), mauve, grapefruit.
- If you have bronze or chocolate skin with red or gold undertones, you will look best in bold shades of pink, red, and warm brown.
- A nice golden shimmer works great as a gloss to compliment warm skin tones.

- Hey, thanks for your comment! With your peach skin tone, you have lots of options for lip color. Peachy skin can handle some cool shades (such as the pale ice pink shown above) as well as warmer ones.

- Great Info. I prefer a natural look and wear sheer lipstick with color. My skin is peach-toned, and I do tend to blush a lot for no reason. Maybe it's because of my skin. I like the colors you suggested for my skin tone. Thanks. :)

- Hey, thanks for visiting me here. I just realized the Candy Color Lip Stain is out of stock in the cherry popsicle color. :( They've only got it in plum right now, and it's not as luscious as the red.
In other news, Lip Ink is sending me a couple of samples of their liquid lip colors to try out. I didn't get to pick the colors and I don't know which ones I'll end up with. Oh the suspense!
