As a mother of two children on the Autistic Spectrum, I have found that removing toxins from our home helped our children. I started researching how to make chemical free cleaning supplies at home. The ingredients are easy to find (you have most of them in your home already!), inexpensive and easy on the environment.

Commercially made cleaners contain many harmful toxins, such as arsenic, that can cause neurological and respiratory damage over time, and trigger allergies and asthma attacks.

Many of the changes have been easy: like using white vinegar in place of fabric softener in the wash, and using baking soda as a non-scratch alternative to clean my sinks. Works great on porcelain or stainless steel!

Others take a bit more effort, but the result is still fantastic! Did you know you can make your own dishwasher detergent using 1/2 cup borax, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup table salt?

Natural Oven Cleaner

5T Baking soda

3 drops hand soap or liquid dish soap

4T White vinegar

Mix above ingredients until they form a thick paste. Apply paste to inside of oven and scrub with sponge. Wipe clean and rinse thoroughly.

Clean Silver Without Chemicals

Dip cleaners can damage your silver. Try hot water, & a white toothpaste-not gel. Rub piece with a soft cloth, then rinse.

For occasional use on very tarnished silver, fill sink with HOT water and line with a sheet of foil. Add 3 tsp borax & baking soda. Soak for a few minutes, rinse, and dry.
