Natural Cures for Acne: Bucking the medical establishment

While it is the fashionable thing to do to acquire the most caustic medicines on the planet to get rid of adult acne fast, it is often an expensive, dangerous, and needless endeavor.

There are many natural ways to cure acne that are so often overlooked. In many cases, these natural acne cures are almost identical to their medicinal counterparts, or are exactly the same as their medicinal counterparts, only with no additives.

Good Skin Care without a Prescription

Before embarking on any medicinal path to curing acne, it's important to practice good skin care. The best natural acne cures are those that rely on no medicinal at all, but daily skin care.

Good skin care involves several key elements: diligence, cleanliness, and moisturizing. Diligence is most important. To keep the pores open, you've got to scrub, scrub hard, and scrub every day. A back brush will keep the pores open on the back, and a washcloth will get those difficult bits. Once the pores are open, this also opens you up for infections, so at this point, it is imperative that you moisturize. Moisturizers often come with antibiotic effects today, and in addition to the antibiotic effect, they prove effective sealants against the bacteria that cause adult acne.

Diet Regimen: Dump the Grease!

Here is the bad news: greasy foods will indeed give you acne. Pizza is delicious, but is it worth the bad skin? That's completely up to you.

Sugars will aggravate acne as well, and most meat is full of hormones which can worsen acne conditions. There are alternatives though. Fish containing omega-3 fats, such as salmon, can ease adult acne conditions. Most leafy green vegetables, in addition to being totally innocuous as it pertains to acne, contain vitamins such as vitamin A that can help prevent acne.

Essentially, it's the same doctor recommended diet you read about time and time again. A proper diet helps not only with acne problems, but basically any other health issue you may have. It may not be easy at first, but the results are worth it, beyond a shadow of a doubt, and it takes no doctor to know this.

Regular bowel movements are important. Proper elimination of waste is an important factor in acne care. Plenty of water and a good vegetable diet will encourage regular movements, eliminating toxins from the body.

Natural Medicines

Salicylic acid is one of the best natural acne cures, and can be found in Stridex, Oxy Night Watch, and the Clearasil Clearstick. Salicylic acid has been used as a medicine since ancient times, occurring in the bark of willow trees. It helps reduce chances for acne to manifest, as it cuts down on the shedding of cells long the follicles of the oil glands. It is also the active ingredient in aspirin.

Sulfur, a delicious smelling natural cure for acne, can be found in Sulpho-Lac Acne Medication, Liquimat, Therac Lotion, and Sulmasque. Sulfur has been used medicinally since the times of Ancient Rome. It works by promoting the shedding of dead skin cells, which will clog pores. It also heals occurring outbreaks when combined with sodium sulfacetamide by preventing bacterial growth through limiting acid resources that bacteria need to survive.

Natural Supplements for Natural Treatment

Zinc has been linked to positive results in curing acne. Reducing inflammation, healing blemishes, and even reduce hormonal effects on the skin are some benefits zinc has been attributed to.

Zinc intake can be increased naturally in many food products, namely vegetables and whole grains. While it is not entirely known why Zinc helps reduce acne, it is hypothesizes that it reduces the amount of testosterone in the body, which aggravates acne conditions.

Hormone treatments are, unsurprisingly, available as well. Seeing as hormones can cause acne, only makes sense that it can help stave off acne as well. Progesterone to help adult acne is a wonderful discovery, being as it is much an opposite of testosterone, which is a prime adult acne irritant. While its exact value as an acne treatment is debatable, there are few downsides (except for the theory that it could actually be an adult acne aggravator). Natural progesterone can prevent cancers of the womb, protect against breast disease, help prevent breast cancer, reduce hair thinning, encourages fat burning, and my personal favorite, an increase in libido.

Vitamin B6 promotes proper metabolism of steroid hormones, which helps keep skin strong, decreasing its infection and hormone sensitivity, and Vitamin A has been shown to reduce acne in women, as it can help hormone imbalances. Vitamin A occurs naturally in carrots, leafy green vegetables (lettuce, spinach, collard greens), and yellow and orange fruits such as peaches, apricots, and mangoes.

Tea tree oil can also remove and stop the growth of bacteria on the skin, perhaps being as effective as benzoyl peroxide. It's also a very pure substance...it can be applied directly to the skin with no carrier oil. It should be used in a daily regimen, as with most natural supplements.
Particularly strong as a natural acne cure, azelaic acid is a natural supplement found in wheat, rye, and barley. Azelaic acid acts as a retinoid, and is also an antimicrobial. In drugstores, azelaic acid can be found as Azelex in a 20% strength cream. Like the over the counter medications it is similar to (Retin-A, et al), it can have side effects, however. It may cause irritation, peeling, and even depigmentation of skin.

Recommendations

As with any cure for acne, natural cures for acne should be used incrementally. Start with the most mild methods: proper, daily skin care, and move onto supplements without additives, and then try natural medicinal methods. Generally, proper daily care is the best route to good skin health.
