Organica Research Better Health, Naturally

We all know that our food supply is degraded by synthetic & chemical pesticides and fertilizers, etc., etc. And this does not meet the standard of being green and healthy. The contamination occurs during both the growing and raising as well as the processing of the foods we eat. How badly is our food supply & health being degraded from food additives and reduced nutrition? Badly, is probably an understatement. Read the ingredient label on most processed food containers, and you can't pronounce most of the words, let alone know what they mean.

So now we have natural and organic foods. Great improvement, isn't it? Well let's see.

But, oh they cost so much more, and it is hard to figure out why. Organic foods don't have all the expensive chemicals and additives in them but cost more. I found out one reason though, while researching a study done by the prestigious Rodale Institute, the grandfather of organic organizations. The Rodale Institute Farming Systems Trial, the longest running comparison of organic vs. conventional farming in the United States (a 22 year study), revealed many stunning comparisions. One related to cost. Organic farming is more labor intensive than conventional farming, with labor costs running 15% higher for organic farming. So this is one higher cost contributing to the higher price of organic foods.

Yet, should the food we ingest into our bodies for health be determined by profits or by nutrition? We all know the answer to that question.

Let's feel better & healthier, with more energy, weight loss, preventing colds & flu, cancer, arthritis, heart disease, avoiding hair loss, and promoting slower aging and illness. Our health is our wealth, and we all can be wealthy, so that we can enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings, such as this wonderful meadow and stream nestled in the Rocky Mountains not far from Denver, Colorado..

Do You Know The Difference Between Organic And Natural Foods?

Probably many of us think that natural and organic foods are about the same. If you want to eat healthier, then organic or natural foods would be their choice, maybe determined by the price of an organic product vs a natural product.

However, the difference between organic & natural food products is very significant. In my Ezine article, clickable above, I explore in considerable detail, the difference between organic and natural. I don't wish to replough the same ground here, but I do want to get my friends to realize the substantial difference between the two categories.

In 2002 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) established the National Organic Program (NOP), which imposes standards required for the production and sale of organic food products. The USDA also has a Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) division, which requires that natural meat and poultry products are processed without artificial and synthetic additives.

I know, the Federal government is imposing standards, so what. Does it really matter.? Well in this case it does. There is a very elaborate system, involving private sector "Certifiers" that subcontract to NOP. These "Certifiers" work intensively with farmers & food processors to ensure that NOP's organic standards are followed to the letter. They report to NOP, and act as the middleman between the food grower/processors and the USDA's NOP.

If a food product has a "certified organic" label on it, you can be sure that it is free of contaminants. However, you will not find these labels on natural foods, because most of the food processors are not held to the organic standards set by NOP, only meat and poultry processors. For products branded natural, there are no standards imposed for raising meat & poultry products, nor are their standards set for processing non-meat food products.

So it looks like if we really want to be sure we are buying uncontaminated foods we should buy organic.

Natural Health on Wikipedia

Naturopathy (also known as naturopathic medicine or natural medicine) is an eclectic alternative medical system that focuses on natural remedies and the body's vital ability to heal and maintain itself. Naturopathic philosophy favors a holistic approach and minimal use of surgery and drugs. Naturopathy comprises many different treatment modalities of varying degrees of acceptance by the medical community; diet and lifestyle advice may be substantially similar to that offered by non-naturopaths, and acupuncture may help reduce pain in some cases, while homeopathy is often characterized as pseudoscience or quackery.

Naturopathy has its origins in the Nature Cure movement of Europe. The term was coined in 1895 by John Scheel and popularized by Benedict Lust, the "father of U.S. naturopathy".

Naturopathy is practiced in many countries, especially the United States and Canada, and is subject to different standards of regulation and levels of acceptance. The level of medical education among naturopaths also varies, though no naturopathic training program reaches the same level of training as an MD or DO. In the United States and Canada, the designation of Naturopathic Doctor (ND) may be awarded after completion of a four year program of study at an accredited Naturopathic medical school that includes the study of basic medical sciences as well as natural remedies and medical care. The scope of practice varies widely between jurisdictions, and naturopaths in unregulated jurisdictions may use the Naturopathic Doctor designation or other titles regardless of level of education.
