Natural Ingredients VS. Harmful Chemical Ingredients for Health and Beauty Skin Care Products

me start off by saying that until seven years ago I was absolutely ignorant about everything and those chemical ingredients that I'm about to share with you. I was always going to the beauty and health store to buy their products everytime I ran out of them and had never thought twice what was in them.

What had changed my view on the store-sold products was an article that was given to me by my physician. This article explained the dangers of many ingredients in presumedly safe products that people use even on babies. It was an eye opening to me... unsafe products using unsafe ingredients even on babies.... This was when I began to look at the ingredients that are on the label of every product and started finding that almost every product sold in the market has at least three harmful chemical ingredients in it. My way of looking at beauty and health changed totally from this point on and that I began to find myself becoming very interested in knowing the things that could help improve my health and skin conditions, thus spending a lot of time in searching for the best solutions.



you know, for instance, that the nail polish and nail polish remover you use contain phthalates which cause reproductive problems in male babies...? And, fragrances, which are found in most of the products we use, are one of the top known allergens? We live in such a dangerous chemical world. Many products we use in our everyday live as part of our daily personal/health care routine contain as many as 120 unique chemicals. Many of them contain very harmful ingredients which cause cancer. The Environmental Group website inidicates that only 1% of the ingredients in their database have had all their ingredients screened by the cosmetics manufacturing industry of the FDA. Thunsands of products contain ingredients found to be unsafe for use in cosmetics. This includes anti-aging and anti-oxidant skincare products that are very popular today in the cosmetic industry. Moreover, thousands more have not been assessed for safety, simply because the FDA just doesn't have the legal muscle to proceed, or doesn't have the resources to do so.

you know your skin is actually the largest organ in your body. Just about anything that comes in contact with your skin is absorbed quickly and distributed throughout your entire body. I have listed as below a brief description of some harmful chemical ingredients that are in most of the beauty and health products that are in the market and what damages they could cause.

COLOR - FD&C Color Pigments:

Many of them cause skin to be sensitive as well as irritation, or even oxygen depletion in the blood. Most of them are made from coal tar. Studies show that almost all of them are cancer causing. For instance, FD&C Red No. 4 is no longer available in the market for use in foods because of its known threat to the urinary bladder and adrenal glands. It is thought to be a carcinogen, but it is still used in non-food products.

FRAGRANCE:

Fragrance is found in any type of deodorants (you know the underarm is very close to the breast area...), as well as in many products including skincare, body care, haircare including shampoos and hair conditioner, sunscreens. You may not be ware that the term 'fragrance' that appears on any product label indicates the presence of any number of up to 3,000 different kinds of ingredients. The majority of those are synthetic and are cancer-causing or otherwise toxic. Studies have shown that exposure to synthetic fragrances affects the central nervous system.

ISOPROPYL ALCHOHOL:

This is found in body lotions, hand lotions, aftershave lotions, body rubs, shellac, antifreeze, hair color rinses, etc. It penetrates into the skin easily and is said to destroy intestinal flora, making your body's major organs open to parasites, and thus to various kinds of cancers. The simple truth of the matter is that isopropyl alcohol isn't needed at all, but the petroleum industry creates a killing off of this industrial byproduct.

MINERAL OIL:

When you hear the name 'Mineral Oil,' it does sounds nice, doesn't it? In reality, it isn't. It is a petroleum derivative that covers the skin like plastic wrap, which gets in the way of the skin's natural functioning of releasing toxins from your body. It slows the skin's natural cell production, causing the premature skin aging. And.... you know what... Baby oil you find in the stores is 100% mineral oil !

PEG [Polyethylene Glycol]:

It is found in skincare and haircare products. It is also used to dissolve grease or oils (grease disolver). It strips the skin of its very natural moisture factor, making the skin's immune system very vulnerable. This is anothere chemical that potentially cause cancer.

PROPYLENE GLYCOL:

This is found in products like make up, deodorant, and toothpaste. It's also the active ingredient used in antifreeze.The EPA requires that all workers to wear protective gloves, goggles, and clothing when they use it. Direct contact with it can cause kidney, liver, brain abnormalities. Stick deodorants that are in the market are higher in concentration of Propylene Glycol (PG) than is allowed for industrial use! Also, be aware of BG (Butylene Glycol) that is a petroleum plastic like Propylene Glycol (PG).

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE:

These are found first of all in cosmetics, hair conditioner, shampoo, toothpaste, and other foaming products. Interestingly enough, it is also used for car wash, engine degreasers, as well as garage floor cleaner. Exposure would cause an eye damage, irritation, diarrhea, depression, and many other ailments. Pherhaps, this chemical ingredient is THE MOST DANGEROUS of all ingredients, and specially when used in combination with many other chemicals, can form a potent class of carcinogen, nitrosamines, etc.

TEA (Triethanolamine), DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine):

These are found in shampoo, soaps, bubble bath, and facial cleansers. All of these are easily absorbed by the skin. Research indicates a strong link to kidney and cancer. In addition, there is also evidence that carcinogens can form when Cocamide DEA (a thickner, cleanser, and the foam booster) is applied to your skin.

TALC:

Talc is found in finishing powders and foundation, makeup products, as well as baby powders. It gives a smoothh slippery touch as well as the covering, however, it causes an ovarian and testicular cancer.

PETROLATUM:

Petrolatum is found in skincare as well as hand and body products to form an occlusive barrier on the surface of the skin (as with mineral, this also prevents your skin from doing what it is naturally supposed to do - detoxify). Petrolatum is a petro-chemical that contains two very well-known carcinogens: Benzo-B-Fluroanthene and Benzo-A-Pyrene

where does this fact leave your health and mine? Right, in the hands of the cosmetics industry. Is it wise to leave the matter and just trust your health and the health of your loved ones to a faceless giant entity whose primary interest is only profits? After reading this article that I wrote, you might be thinking death is waiting at the doorstep, but no, not really. Don't worry. Our bodies are naturally very resilient. So, by changing the products that you're currently using and avoiding these killer chemical ingredients, your body will begin to detoxify itself. Gradually your body as well as your skin will begin to feel and look better. Another thing to keep in mind is that, if you happen to have an infant, please always pay careful attention to the ingredients used in each product you purchase for them.

Thankfully enough, there are more and more companies who recognise the importance of providing toxin free/chemical free alternatives to cosmetics, skincare, haircare. BUT, how do you know if a product contains what its label indicates? That's why I have chosen to go natural with every single product I use in my daily life. You can be 100% sure that a product does not contain synthetic chemical ingredients, or GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) and are good for the soil, the environment and for your body. I hope you've found this lens very helpful, and that it has provided you a very good healthy reason to switch from very expensive chemically-laden over the counter products that harm your body to products that are absolutely safe, above all, very natural and good to help you maintain a good healthy body and skin.
