A Passion for Poetry

Ranked #22,625 in Arts & Design, #542,250 overall

Writing poetry and music lyrics are my passion.

If you've seen my other lenses you will know a bit about me.  But, I have not really talked about my love for writing.  I love writing words, any words even if they don't make sense I love to do it.  I write all kinds of poems some are sad, some are happy it just depends on the mood I'm in at the time.  I've been writing poetry for a long time, and thought I would share some of my stuff with the world.

My very long term goal (or I guess I should say dream) is to be an author or novelist.  But, as you can see my grammar and spelling sucks!  So please forgive my errors!  I try anyway!

I have written two novels, and am working on one more.  Of course I haven't even tried to publish them.  I also write words for my husband's music or try anyway.  I love to write poems and letters and well anything.  So, I hope you like my newest and latest lens.

Nothing to Hide

This is something I wrote a while ago. I found it in an old drawer thought maybe someone would like it.

Looking over the edge
Wishing I could fall
Screaming on the inside

The Lights Swallow me
As I stare into the water
My suffering is pointless

I reach out to touch you
As you float to the top
Miles away but close inside

I pushed you
Did I say that?
No, I have nothing to hide.

Why are the Angels Singing?

I wrote this poem after my grandma passed away. I wanted to make it into a song but it never got the chance. It's been in the vault for about 3 years now. I thought someone besides my husband should here it.

As heaven sings a song of rejoice
We sing a song of sorrow
An angel has left us
Taken to heaven without a trace

Why are the angels singing?
When we are in pain
Why are the curtains falling
When we are calling your name?

The wind on my face flowing though my hair
Can it feel my pain
for the one I loved so dear
My heart begins to fall but my eyes look up
Can you hear the Angels singing

The stories you've told
have brought a smile to my soul
The games we've played
Have gave me memories to hold

Without a whisper
Without a trace
With only the memories to embrace
And now we say goodbye to our yesterday

With a pain in my throat
Tears on my eyes
And a soft breeze
I heard the music cry

Imagining the angels dancing with joy
As they sang there songs
They took our angel our hope of life
I hear them playing the music

The silence of the sun
Gun shot in the distance
We were crying
As we heard music play

Tear on our cheeks
As we say our goodbyes
She only wanted a friend
And then we cry

Wild roses are in bloom
We look for you near
To smell the fresh rose
And add a little sunshine to the air

Why are the Angels Singing
When we are in pain?
Why is the curtain falling
When we are calling your name?

Is it a Sin?

This is a poem I wrote a long time ago but it is one of my favorites. Just so you understand a bit. I grew up Roman Catholic. I went to a private catholic school and my mother is very religious. I wrote this poem when I got older and was questioning my relgious values and ways. I didn't know how I believed at the time. Just to warn you I don't mean to affend anyone. I am saying this because this poem would affend my mother.

You tell me why you want to wash away my sins
Are my sins in vain?
Can you wash away my sadness or wash away my pain?
My sins are for you, so,
What sin have I committed?

Is it a sin to love you?
If it is wash that away too.
Just don't wash away the joy it brought me
that is to love you

Is it a sin for me to grieve for a loved one whom you've taken to another life?
Even if she is happier in that other life.
Is that a sin for you or for me?

Is it a sin not visit if I talk to you every night?
Or to wipe away the tears of a young child that just wanted you by her side?
So if I have sinned don't wash them away
Let me live with them
Or my sins will be in vain

The Evil

Poetry from my son

I have 3 children. I encourage them on a regular basis to write. So this is my 9 year old son's poem he wrote recently. He is also learning how to play piano and has already put music to it.

The Evil
The stars have blackened
The skies have turned gray
Zombies have rose from their graves
Evil has struck this world
There is nothing we can do to stop this from killing me and you.

Follow you Dreams

A poem from my daughter

This is a poem that my 6 year-old daughter wrote just the other day. She is learning guitar so there is also music to the words.

The star are so bright tonight
I hope they never leave
When I look to the sky
They they give me words to breathe

Follow your dreams,be who you wanna be
This is what I truely believe
Follow your dreams, be who you wanna be
I'll sing to you, You'll sing to me

Tell us what you think

My kids and I are having a contest to see who has the best poem. Let us know! The Winner gets a week off from thier chores. The losers have to do the winners chores.

Tips for any writer!

These are just a few tips I have learned about myself through out the years. I don't know if they work for everyone but they might you never know. These are just my thoughts on the subject. I'm not published or anything but I have been writing for a long time and have a little experience.

1. If you are mad at anyone, anything, or just life in general WRITE. Just pick up a pen and grab a piece of paper and write. Write down all of your feelings. Write down everything that comes to your head. This is soooo much better then hitting someone or something. And it helps you develop your writing. I find that a lot of my good poems come out of this situation.

2. Listen to music. All music. There's so much music out there that moves me and gives me great feeling. I find that I can come up with so many great things when I hear something that really moves me. No matter what mood I'm in. So instead of just listening to the music you need to Feel the music.

3. If you are in a block. You know you've been wanting to write but nothing will come to you. Get that pen and paper and just write anything. If it sounds stupid it doesn't matter. Write down every thought in your head. Even the weather outside. Eventually you will snap back and write something great.

4. Read what you write out loud to yourself. Sometimes when you write it, it sounds great in your head but when hearing it out loud its just funny.

5. Share. Let someone you trust read it. Make them critize you. If they don't like it maybe you should think twice about it. But if they do like it! It gives you a little more confidence. I always make my husband read everything before I let anyone else. He will tell me truthfully what he thinks.

Anyone who enjoys poetry is okay with me; as I learned in the corporate IT world, "don't let the bastards wear you down". Keep writing and don't lose the joy of doing so.
