Go Green This Summer Using Essential Oils

I believe in "going green" and living healthy naturally. All the products I will mention here are safe and easy formulas and products that do not harm the environment. I'm writing this in May and I can feel summer is just weeks away - a time to plan picnics, ride your bike, swim or take a relaxing stroll. Here I offer some solutions for going green while you also find solutions for pesky bugs. So prepare yourself and your guests for the perfect outdoor experience. Take advantage of our helpful hints for going green this summer.

For example Thieves Household Cleaner is one such nontoxic cleaner. For a nontoxic solution to cleaning jobs like scouring and absorbing grease, you can't beat this product. If you order on-line you will need a sponsor number to join and place an order - please use sponsor #322979. Using an essential oil product rather than a chemical-laden commercial one can save you time and money. Thieves products can keep your home clean, green, and uplifting. Assure that house cleaning is a health-enhancing activity.

Diane Behrens experience: "Our grandchild was over to visit while I was gone. My husband let him play with crayons and our two Yorkie puppies got the crayons and chewed them up. My husband tried to get the tiny bits up with the steam mop and when i arrived home I saw black and red streaks in the carpet - the steam had melted the crayons into the carpet. I used the steam mop again, but used Thieves Household Cleaner full strength on the carpet first. I just rubbed it in and then used the steam mop. To our amazement, all of it came out!"

Renee Grimm submitted the following tip:

"I was visiting my sister out East this past summer and she was having a bad problem with ants on her kitchen counters. They were getting into everything no matter how good it was covered. For one or two days, whenever I wiped the counters down I would also spray Thieves® Spray on the counters. After that there were no more ants for the rest of my visit!"

Bug Repellant Candle

Mold
Wick
Carrier Oil
7 to 10 drops of essential oil
from insect repellant listed above

Place the wick in the mold. Slowly melt the beeswax. Add the mixture of essential oil and carrier oil. Pour into the mold with the wick up and let stand until firm.

Deter Crawling Insects

Insect Sprays and bites

Here are some recipes that I have used and have been very successful for me and I wanted to share this with everyone now that summer is upon us..

For the house and garden insect spray:
3 drops spearmint
3 drops orange
2 qts water

Mix and spray on plants in the house and outside and in greenhouse to keep the bugs and aphids away. Also diffuse in the greenhouse. And for those that use a swamp cooler put lemon in, to keep the fungus at bay. That way you don't have to use chemicals.

One thing that I have found that really works great on ants of any kind is peppermint. I had these ants that kept coming into the house and my little granddaughter would pick them up between her fingers and try to eat them.

So I put peppermint clear across the door seal and as I was doing this here came an ant on high, just as he got close to where I put the peppermint he reared up on his hind legs and his antennas were waving back and forth and he pivoted and went the other direction. Needless to say I didn't have to worry about Kimberlee eating ants in the house.

Another woman's experience: "It's been a terrible year in California for black ants. They have invaded my kitchen, my bathrooms, and my home. It has been awful. One morning i came into the kitchen and found ants on the counter. In frustration I grabbed my peppermint essential oil, dropped two drops on the counter, and used my band to rub it all over the counter where the ants had not ventured. I watched the ants go up to the border, stop, and then change directions. I used my finger to draw a peppermint circle around a few isolated ants - they were trapped in the circle. Finally, I rubbed the entire counter with one more drop of peppermint, and the ants have not come back. I will gladly rub my counters down with peppermint one or two times a day to keep the critters from invading my territory again!" Julie Dollahite

Always remember to use Purification oil blend on any insect bite especially poisonous insect bites to neutralize the poison.

Here is a list of essential oils you can use on bites.

1 drop thyme Or 1 drop lavender
10 drops lavender 1 drop birch
4 drops eucalyptus
3 drops Roman chamomile
1 Tbs V-6

Insect repellent

Peppermint has been great for me. I just rub it all over my head and my arms and legs and they never light on me. Purification and the Idaho tansy oil is
good, plus the Sunsation suntan oil is great.

Brown Recluse Spider Bite
1 drop lavender
1 drop helichrysum
1 drop Melrose

Apply neat to bite then add to an oatmeal poultice 5 drops each to draw out the poison. After the poultice then apply Purification.

Black Widow Spider
10 drops lavender right after the bite and then 1 drop every two to three minutes until you get to the doctor. Also again apply purification blend in between the lavender.

Cockroaches
10 drops peppermint
5 drops cypress
1/2 cup water and spray where they run and live

Head Lice
2 drops eucalyptus
1 drop lavender
1 drop geranium
1 tsp V-6
mix and massage into scalp and leave for 1/2 hour then shampoo with Lavender shampoo and rinse well. Next apply
2 drops eucalyptus
2 drops lavender
2 drops geranium
1/2 oz. apple cider vinegar
8 oz water

This is an antiseptic rinse. Pour over the head making sure every hair is rinsed. Let dry naturally and repeat daily until lice and eggs are gone.

My friends little girl had head lice and had three spots the size of a quarter on her head where there wasn't any hair because of the lice and the
medication the doctor had her on. After using the above recipe the lice are all gone and her hair has grown back and she is no longer fighting her
mother about going to school.

Paula and Judi have compiled an incredible introduction for someone new to aromatherapy. The book is so easy to follow and read, and the blends are so easy to make and use. In addition, the blends in this book are timeless. You won't outgrow this book. What I liked the best about the blends is you see results immediately. To top it off, it's one of the most beautiful books I've seen. Great on the coffee table, a great conversation piece, and forever in use. Keep it handy!

Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier

Featured on The View, April 2008

On the April 22, 2008, Earth Day episode of ABC's The View, environmental activist, best-selling author, and Young Living customer Deirdre Imus was featured in a segment about how parents can help their children grow up green-which includes using Young Living products.

Imus named Young Living's Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier as one of her recommended "greening" products, and The View co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Elizabeth Hasselbeck sampled the product on air. Imus explained that among other products many parents often use, most hand sanitizers are not healthy because of their alcohol content. Young Living's Thieves hand purifier, however, contains only natural ingredients, and is therefore a better alternative.

Imus also created a list of recommended reading that she included in her book and listed Gary Young's Essential Oils Desk Reference as her favorite book on essential oils. Imus recommends readers purchase oil blends through Young Living and diffuse the oils at home as a way to create a "more nurturing, welcoming place to be."

Fine lens. I appreciate your idea of pushing forward natural recipes against these pesty summer mosquitoes etc. I grew up in the rural countryside and such old recipes used to be quite effective.
