Radiant Names for Your Little Nature Boy or Girl

Alas, I'm done bearing children. But if I could have just one more, I'd favor a name inspired by nature. Nature-inspired baby names are special but not "kooky." The best ones have a lovely organic quality without being over-the-top crunchy granola. Not that there's anything wrong with granola ;)

Here, some of the coolest nature baby names I've found, along with meanings and origins for the more unusual ones. They come from all sorts of natural elements--trees, flowers, stones, etc. Happy hunting, and if you're expecting, congratulations!

I read something a while back that with names that were not standard, it was putting our children at a disadvantage. There was a study done that showed that kids with the standard names were picked for jobs, etc. before the kids that had unorthodox names. It may be cool for the parents but always remember your kid has to walk through life with these names. People like Johnny Depp don't have to worry because their kids will have an advantage because of their parents. Blessed!

Interesting point! I think it's a balance. Often kids don't like their unusual names growing up -- until they get to college, when they love being original. As far as career, I think maybe that depends on vocation. It's hard to picture a "Saffron" or "Sage" getting elected president, maybe, but hired as a graphic designer? Sure! [ and don't forget that book Push, by Sapphire ;) ]
