Nature and Earth-Friendly Books for All Ages
Ranked #9,334 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #327,657 overall
Everyone can enjoy learning more about nature and the environment!
Children and adults can enjoy reading about nature and learning what everyone can do to respect and save the earth! Enjoying nature can start with children at an early age as they explore the shape of a pinecone or feel sand beneath their bare toes. Older children and young adults can enjoy the beauty of nature; get exercise while hiking; and become environmentally-friendly as they recycle. Parents can enjoy sharing nature with their children as they birdwatch together; watch the stars come out at night; complete family projects like a backyard habitat; and teach their children why recycling is important.
To watch my family's backyard habitat grow, please come visit my lens, Create a Backyard Habitat - a Hobby for the Whole Family.

The Book that Really Impressed Me:
Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
Amazon Price: $1.85 (as of 06/03/2012)![]()
This book had a great impact on our choice for family activities. My husband and I both want our children to be physically active and grow up appreciating nature. We love to go out on "adventure trips" and make improvements to our backyard habitat.

A Drop of Water by Gordon Morrison
A nice way to introduce children to how things in nature are all connected.1 point
Dad and Me in the Morning by Patricia Lakin
An early morning walk to enjoy the sun rising. Bonus: A wonderful story to introduce young children to the idea that deafness and sign language are a natural part of some families' lives.1 point
Creatures at My Feet by Charles E. Davis; Illustrator-Sherry Neidigh
Nicely detailed illustrations - good for getting kids to identify what they can find in each one. Each page has a brief poem.1 point
Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost

Each Living Thing by Joanne Ryder
A beautiful poem with incredible illustrations depicting children respecting all sorts of animals in various settings!1 point
While a Tree Grew: The Story of Maryland's Wye Oak by Elaine Rice Bachmann
A lovely story that intertwines the growth of a large majestic tree with local Maryland history.0 points
All Things Bright and Beautiful by Cecil Frances Alexander
The lyrics to a hymn from the 1800s is brought to life with beautiful realistic illustrations of a girl and her dog as they travel around the family farm one day completing chores and stopping to enjoy the wonders of nature.0 points
Eddie's Garden by Sarah Garland
With the help of his mother (and a little sister who tries to eat worms!), Eddie learns how to plant and care for his own garden, from planting the seeds, to hunting for slugs, to picking vegetables to eat at a family picnic. The book has 4 pages at the end with instructions on how to grow a garden just like Eddie.0 points
Mowing by Jessie Haas
Nora helps Gramps mow grass that will dry into hay for the horses. Gramps and the horses pull the mower while Nora runs ahead to warn Gramps of any wildlife nearby. Beautiful illustrations complement this wonderfully detailed story that shows a family respecting nature. My son loved this as a bedtime story!0 points
Hurry! by Jessie Haas
Another story with Nora and Gramps, with Gran joining in, as the hay is drying and needs to be gathered and brought into the barn before the rain starts. Jessie Haas' writing is richly detailed - you might actually be able to smell the fresh hay and feel those first drops of rain as you read this story aloud! Another bedtime favorite for my son!0 points
