Nautical Bedrooms

In many interior design books, nautical inspired bedrooms are often designed around a piece of outdoor decor, such as an authentic ship's wheel. However, this bedroom was designed using a comforter as the inspirational piece.

While outdoor items make great conversational pieces in a bedroom, there are also wonderful interior decorating pieces to brighten any nautical themed bedroom.

When redecorating a bedroom, a good place to start is with a new bedding set from which you can draw your inspiration. Take the room in the photo to your left for example. It is obvious that the inspirational piece is the comforter set.

Taking inspiration from the comforter set, you can see that they've carried the white from the comforter to the walls, and the red anchor, sailboat and compass from the comforter have been the inspiration for the wall's decor.

On the print of the comforter, you can also see a black and white lighthouse, and a blue and red sailboat. Both pieces inspired the designer to add a sailboat and lighthouse to the room as decorating accessories.

The colors in the valance match the colors of the comforter, and even the white trim around the window, and light flooring in the room, all play a part in pulling this nautical inspired bedroom together.
