Fun Nautical Ties and Other Cruise Accessories for Men
"Aw, do I HAVE to wear a TIE?" I can hear it now. It's the mantra of the cruising male. So, let's make that whole thing a little more fun, with a great nautical tie and some other cruise accessories for men.
Wearing a tie doesn't have to make you feel stogey! Make the other guys sit up and take notice of yours! There are some great nautical ties for you to wear on those one or two nights that call for a little more in the way of dress while you are having the time of your life aboard that fabulous cruise ship. I'll show you some of them. Pair one with a fun nautical tie clip, and you're ready for a floating runway!
For those who don't usually wear a tie at all, and struggle a bit with how to easily and properly tie that "thing" around your neck, I have several "How to tie a necktie" videos that will make you an expert in several different types of tie knots.
Then, we'll have a look at some other mens cruise accessories that would be great to pack for your cruise, and fun to have for other special occasions, too.

Play it Safe with an Old Standby: The Regimental Stripe Tie
And How to Properly Wear it
Regimental stripes have been worn for nearly a century, and were originally associated with specific regiments, each of which had its own colors. (Hence, the name.) Then other organizations, including schools and universities, adopted the custom, each having it's own special stripe.

THE PROPER WAY TO WEAR A REGIMENTAL STRIPED TIE
In AMERICA, these ties are worn by anyone, and generally the tie is worn with the stripe running with the high end pointint at the wearer's right sholder, and running down towards the left.
In the British Commonwealth Countries, the stripes are worn running in the opposite direction. The gentleman wearing the tie is usually connected with the regiment or organization represented by that particular stripe.
Formal Nights on a Cruise
Can be a time to Shine (or Not)
A seven day cruise on a mass market line (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, etc.) will have two nights designated as formal. In recent years, tuxedoes and ball gowns are on the decline, but they are not absent altogether. You see more of them on Celebrity than you do on Norwegian Cruises, and people tend to go all out more when cruising on major holidays, like Christmas, or New Years than in mid-summer.We tend to go with whatever mood strikes us. If we don't feel like 'dressing' on formal night, we'll let our waiter know ahead of time we'll be eating in the buffet that night. Or, hubby may just bring a dark suit or nice sports jacket and tie, instead of his tux. You'll see plenty of those on formal night on most lines.
On Premium and Luxury lines, cruise formal wear still means formal, and on elegant casual nights, gentlemen still need a jacket, but can ditch the tie.

Gentlemen, BEWARE!
When you wear a tuxedo and a bow tie
Warning - Warning - WarningGentlemen!
Beware of the effect that a tux or dinner jacket with a bow tie - - has on women.
The same is true of a dark suit beautifully coordinated with a well-chosen shirt and tie, an interesting tie clip or tie tac, and matching pocket square

Once, we got a little WILD
We didn't get a picture of it, so you will have to use your imagination with this story.A couple of years ago, on one of our cruises, we decided to get a little wild with our cruise wear on formal night. He brought his tuxedo. So far, so good. . . but, THEN... on the Captain's formal night, we had a little fun . . .
With his black tux, he wore a turquoise bow tie and cumberbund.
And I wore a black cocktail dress, with turquoise jewelry, and a turqulose pashmina stole.
Yes, we MATCHED. (He looked SO cute)
I thought no one would notice, but boy, was I wrong! We were stopped not once, but several times, by fellow cruisers asking if they could take our photo!
It was fun once, but we haven't done THAT again!

- I love the nautical style. My girlfriend is totally addicted to it and this summer she was always in her blue-white dresses. :)
