Quick, what do you think of Adolf Hitler?
Adolf Hitler At A Glance
A quick look at the life of the German Chancellor.
Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 - 30 April 1945) was an Austrian-born politician and the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), also called the Nazi Party. He was the ruler of Germany from 1933 to 1945, serving as Chancellor from 1933-1945 and Führer (literally, "leader" but understood by supporters and opponents alike as "dictator") from 1934-1945.
A decorated veteran of World War I, Hitler joined the Nazi Party in 1920 and became its leader in 1921. Following his imprisonment after a 1923 failed coup, he gained support by promoting nationalism, antisemitism and anti-communism with charismatic oratory and propaganda. He was ultimately named chancellor in 1933, and quickly established a totalitarian and fascist dictatorship. Hitler pursued a foreign policy with the declared goal of seizing Lebensraum ("living space"), and directed the resources of the state, including the economy, toward this goal. His rebuilt Wehrmacht invaded Poland in 1939, leading to the outbreak of World War II in Europe.
Within three years, Germany and the Axis powers occupied most of Europe and large parts of Africa, East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean. However, the Allies gained the upper hand from 1942 onward, and Hitler committed suicide in 1945 as Allied armies poured into Germany from all sides. His forces committed numerous atrocities during the war, including the systematic genocide of an estimated six million Jews as well as various other groups of people in what is known as the Holocaust. During the final days of the war in 1945, as Berlin was being invaded by the Red Army, Hitler married Eva Braun. Less than 24 hours later, the two committed suicide in the Führerbunker.
Childhood and Heritage
Adolf Hitler was born at the Gasthof zum Pommer, an inn in Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary, on 20 April 1889, the fourth child of six. His father, Alois Hitler (1837-1903), was a customs official. His mother, Klara Pölzl (1860-1907), was Alois' third wife. She was also his half-niece, so a papal dispensation was obtained for the marriage. Of Alois and Klara's six children, only Adolf and his sister Paula, seven years his junior, reached adulthood. Hitler's father also had a son, Alois, Jr., and a daughter, Angela, by his second wife.
Hitler's father, Alois Hitler, was an illegitimate child. For the first 39 years of his life he bore his mother's surname, Schicklgruber. In 1876, he took the surname of his stepfather, Johann Georg Hiedler. The name was spelled Hiedler, Huetler, Huettler and Hitler, and was probably regularized to Hitler by a clerk. The origin of the name is either 'one who lives in a hut' (Standard German Hütte), 'shepherd' (Standard German hüten 'to guard,' English heed), or is from the Slavic word Hidlar and Hidlarcek. - Despite his evil intentions, Hitler was a charismatic leader who ran one of the largest empires through control executing fear on those who refused to comply. He also had some of the best people working for him one of which was Albert Speer, a gifted architect whose firm continues to inspire much of the architectural foundations in Germany till today and let's not forget the worst ones too like the chicken farmer Heinrich Himmler :) In fact, I think it was Albert Speer who created the protective bunker for Hitler. There is also something no one quite knows but sources have indicated that there was a Salomon in Hitler's background - so what is obviously incomprehensible is that this man has Jewish blood. That he would hate Jewish people is deplorable and the manner they were treated was savage. The Holocaust however took along with it many Germans too - good people who fought for the rights of the Jewish people. Hitler also destroyed many Catholics who refused to accept his rule and even killed mentally unsound and crippled German people like his niece who was mentally retarded. He thought that by ferreting out so called "deviants", he could ensure that German people could never be "biologically" defective. He never regarded life as divine but was rather an opportunistic man who capitalized on power and glory to further his ends. But suffice to say that under his rule, Germany did retain self-sufficiency and was growing in military might. Today, Germany is controlled militarily but has risen as an economic power. Did you know that Hitler's nephew is settled in New York - they use a different family name today. Not surprising but who would ever want to be associated with this mad man anyway!

- I hope the world never gets another monster like him. He and Franco had the same disability which according to me was partly responsible for their fascist actions.

- I was born in Germany during the war, but didn't know who Hitler was till I went to high School when people "Goose Stepped and Sieg Heiled" me..my History teacher asked me, what did your parents do about the concentration camps? I didn't even know anything about them...well, mom made a mark when she came to school to confront the teacher. Are all Germans to blame for what that nut case Hitler did? Do we tend to blame a whole race or country for what their leaders do or have done? Unfortunately that is human nature, especially if they don't know the whole truth or facts. Don't ever think that a person like Hitler can not come into power again, history repeats itself. Hitler was not a German but he certainly was sick, he was a drug addict and had mental problems...why could no one see this...I don't know and I don't know if anyone else could have till it was too late.

- He was a crazy man! All the horrible things he did. My Grandmother was in one of his Concentration camps for a minute. At the time she was pregnant with my Mother. The words he said to her she has never forgotten. he said " You better hope that child is Blond haired and Blue eyes". To my grandmothers Luck, My mom was blond and blue eyes. I hate to think what might of happened if she was not! By the way, I too am blond and have blue eyes.In case your wondering, My Grandmother was not Jewish she was Czechoslovakian.
