Old Time NBC Mystery Movies
This lens is about the NBC Mystery Movies which were popular back in the early to late 1970's generally running from 1971- 1978. These movies included McMillan & Wife starring Rock Hudson, Susan St. James, McCloud starring Dennis Weaver and Columbo starring Peter Falk. These shows rotated with each other originally on Wednesday night, switching to Sunday nights starting in their second season and continuing to air on Sundays for the rest of their run.

McMIllan & Wife
McMillan & Wife was a crime drama series starring Susan St. James and Rock Hudson. It was part of the NBC mystery movie series and also starred Nancy Walker(as Mildred the McMillan's maid) and John Schuck( as Sgt Enright). Both of these secondary characters were primarily used as comic relief.McMillan and wife focused on police commissioner McMillan ( Hudson) and his wife Sally ( St. James). The couple often attended social functions and solved mysteries together.

McCloud
McCloud starred Dennis Weaver as Marshall Sam McCloud a law official from New Mexico who was on special assignment in New York City. McCloud along with McMillan and Wife and Columbo finished 14th in tv ratings their 1st year. The shows original running time was increased from 60 to 90 minutes.The idea for McCloud, a cowboy in a big city was adapted from the film Coogan's Bluff starring Clint Eastwood, and was based on a real life New Mexico sheriff.

Columbo
Peter Falk played the rumpled but loveable detective Columbo ( we never knew his 1st name). Falk's character was portrayed as absent minded and incapable, when in reality he was quite capable of solving a mystery. The character was often compared to Sherlock Holmes. Falk's character Lieutenant Columbo was a homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department.Columbo mysteries were different with the culprit being known to the viewer. The show then goes about showing how Columbo manages to catch the perpetrator. Columbo was different because it wasn't a whodunit.
