Necked Turtle Dove

Necked turtle dove is a family of pigeon or Columbidae. The performance is not different with spotted dove. they have 28 to 32 cm length and its size is smaller twice than homing pigeon.

The color of feather is white to dark brown. there a ring neck in thir neck. Sometimes the neckcolor is brown. the color of feet is bloody red like spotted dove.

the bird has beedn domesticated since along time ago. so, it nature is unknown. you can find the ring necked turtle dove everwhere same like pigeon.

The diet is grass, seed, little insect and fruit. they live at savana, edge of forest and farm crop. in the cage, the owner often give paddy, corn, soy bean, bean,etc. sometimes we can give octopus bone. it is useful to fulfill their calcium need. the bord need calcium for their bones and for breeding too. when the female lay, they need more calcium.

turtle dove is a prolific bird. they can breed every three months. In one year age, they can start spawn. in first breed, they often cannot produce any chick.

In nature they will make a nest at savana or farm crop.
this bird is monogamous, they will not find another female.
the bird is very care to the kid. sometimes home pigeon breeder use their service as baby sitter. the breeder remove the turtle's egss and replace with homing pigeon eggs.

Although this bird is cheap, some people care this bird. In my country you can get this bird with a dollar. you can buy a pair with two dollars. To differentiate between the male with female bird is difficult.
