Neil Cavuto - TV Reporter

One of my favorite TV new commentators is Neil Cavuto. As many may know, Neil has a program that airs on Fox News weekdays at 4:00 p.m. EST. I like Neil because I believe he gives an accurate account of the news.

Neil served as an White House Intern during the US Presidency of Jimmy Carter's Administration. He spent 15 years with the Public Broadcasting Service. He has received several awards in journalism, one being the Wall Street Journal's Best Interviewer in Business News for four consecutive years. He also hosted a news program called Power Lunch.

Mr. Cavuto came over from CNBC Network. He was a news contributor of CNBC and NBC Today. In 1996, he became managing editor of Fox business news and TV anchor and later became vice president of business news in 2006. He serves in 3 positions for Fox concurrently. Neil has a syndicated radio business news segment.

Cavuto is the author of More Than Money and Your Money or Your Life.

Born September 22, 1958, Neil lives with his wife, Mary Fulling, in New Jersey. They have been married since 1983 and have three children.

Potshots From A Hypocrite

By Neil Cavuto

Since no good deed goes unpunished, leave it to The New York Times to take a shot at me. Not The Times itself, but columnist Paul Krugman, who blasts me for my apparent blatant partisanship.

He writes:

"Neil Cavuto of Fox News is an anchor, not a commentator. Yet after Baghdad's fall he told 'those who opposed the liberation of Iraq' -- a large minority -- that 'you were sickening then; you are sickening now.'"

First off, Mr. Krugman, let me correct you: I'm a host and a commentator, just like you no doubt call yourself a journalist and a columnist. So my sharing my opinions is a bad thing, but you spouting off yours is not?

Exactly who's the hypocrite, Mr. Krugman? Me, for expressing my views in a designated segment at the end of the show? Or you, for not so cleverly masking your own biases against the war in a cheaply written column?

“Personal responsibility has now become government responsibility!”

Cavuto Speaks Out

It's about food. It's about your home. It's about your life. The government is worried about all of the above. All I'm saying is you should be worried they're worried. Here's why: They're telling you that you can't take care of yourself. You can't be trusted with what you put in your mouth or what you sign on the mortgage dotted line. So they'll tell you what to put in your mouth and they'll save you from what you signed on that dotted line. Does anyone see a trend here? Personal responsibility has now become government responsibility.

Neil Cavuto Deals With MS
The Fox News anchor accepts -- and defies -- his multiple sclerosis.

When news anchor Neil Cavuto was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a decade ago -- after surviving stage IV Hodgkin's lymphoma in the late '80s -- he sought second opinions in New York, Atlanta, Minnesota, and London, in his attempt to refute the undeniable.

Ten years later, Cavuto both accepts his MS and defies it. Doctors marvel at his MRI scans because they indicate a man unable to walk or talk. Yet while he sometimes has difficulty doing both, the Fox News anchor is remarkably fit, exercising on a stationary bike and treadmill to stave off muscle atrophy of the legs, a common problem in MS patients. Cavuto, 48, has the secondary progressive form of the disease, meaning it steadily worsens over time.

He has fatigue, headaches, trouble walking, some vision loss, and -- occasionally -- hoarseness. "Having difficulty talking isn't good in my profession, but my wife welcomes it," jokes the anchor, who memorizes scripts for his program, Your World With Neil Cavuto, in case he can't read the teleprompter during taping.

More on MS and Neil

It Takes More Than Money To Make the World Go Round

Neil Cavuto has navigated the ultimate route to happiness: live your life doing good, because it is a lot more important than having a lot of fine things. Cavuto, the host of the No. 1 business news show on cable, Your World with Neil Cavuto, is following his golden rule. Just a decade after beating cancer, Cavuto was diagnosed with the life-altering disease of multiple sclerosis in 1996. After his diagnosis, he began thinking less about himself, and instead spent his time searching for meaning and a greater understanding of how others go through pain and difficulty. In seeking inspiration in other's stories, Cavuto found the strength and courage to face his own challenges and achieve success.
