The Nexton Rorqual
The Big Ugly Boat
If you are looking for a glamorous dive boat with sleek lines and top cruising speeds then this is not it. If you are looking for a stable platform to dive till you drop then this is your kind of trip. The Nekton Rorqual is one of two live aboard dive boats that use the SWATH design to provide a more stable ship. The ship will not set any speed records but it will get you to some of the best dive sites in ST. Croix. The dive deck is located at the rear of the ship. You will descend a stairway from the galley level to the dive deck and sign in on the board that keeps track of your daily dives. You will set your tank up on day one and after each dive merely detach your regulator from your tank. While you do your service interval the crew will fill your tank and reattach your regulator. Nitrox is available at an additional cost.
The dive deck moves up and down as the pontoons are inflated and deflated so you are always near the water. There is a stairway for easy entry and exit.
SWATH Design
Don't Rock the Boat
You can visit the Nekton Cruises website for more information on the design but in short there are two pontoons that can be filled with air to float on the surface in calm seas of flooded to float below the waves in heavier seas. This designs provide a much more stable platform for you week of diving..... and sleeping and eating.
