A Guide to Learning The Neopian Stock Market

Looking for a Neopets stock market tutorial? If you are having trouble learning the stock market on Neopets or just want to learn how to make a lot of neopoints fast then this Neopet stock market guide will be helpful. It is the easiest and most efficient way to make neopoints on Neopets. It took me awhile to learn how to play, but after I studied and practiced I got the hang of it. It seems difficult at first, especially if you have no education of the stock market. I knew nothing about the stocks, but now I use the Neopets stock market to make the majority of my neopoints on Neopets! Hopefully this tutorial will help you make more points as well!

Neopoints

neopointsFirst you need to have enough neopoints to make an investment. You can buy small amounts of stocks but in my opinion, anything less than 1000 shares (15,000 np) a day is not worth it because it will take a long time to make any kind of profit. Play games and sell items in your shop to make at least 15,000 to buy your stocks for the day. You don't have to buy a stock every single day when you are starting out.

Arg! What do all of those words mean?

Buying

"Buy, Sell, Buy, Sell"

The #1 rule for buying: BUY LOW.

The lowest you can buy is at 15 np (neopoints) per share. You can only buy 1000 Shares per day. So the most you can spend per day on the stock market is 15,000 np. You can split the points into multiple shares if you would like, but the best way to make a profit is to buy 1000 shares of one stock.

So lets do a step-by-step process of how you would buy your first stock.

1. Make sure you have 15,000 np available.

2. Go to the stock market.

The main stock market page should look like this:
Photobucket

3. Click on "Buy"

4. Click on "Click to list" right under where it says "ticker symbol"

5. This will take you to all of the stocks that are in the Neopia stock market. What you need to pay attention to is where it says "Curr" which means what the stock is currently selling for. Scroll down until you see one that is selling for 15 np. If you don't see one selling for 15 np, check back when the stocks change. The stocks change every 30 minutes (1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, etc.)

6. Click on the ticker symbol for that stock (ie: UNIB). This will take you to the company profile.

7. Click on the company name (ie: Unis Beauty Salon). This will take you to the page to buy shares.

8. Type in 1000 next to where it says "number of shares".

9. Click "buy shares"

Yay! You have now bought your first stock! You have 1000 shares and have spent 15,000 np. If the stock goes to 100% (gets to 30 np per share) you will have 30,000 np. Therefore, you will make 15,000 np in profit.

For example...Using a screen shot of one of my stocks...
Photobucket

I have bought 2,000 shares (QTY) of AAVL (TICKER).
I paid 30,000 np for 2,000 shares.
If I sold the stock right now, I would lose np because the market value is at 16,000. I would lose 46.67%.

TIP: Buy different stocks each day. Check your stocks and see which ones are currently at 15 np. If there are some at 15, look for ones you do not have that are at 15 and buy those. You have a better chance of making np faster when you have multiple companies. It is okay to buy the same company, but try to keep variety in your portfolio, especially when you are first starting out..

Selling

Rule #1 for selling: SELL HIGH

Some people sell at 100% profit. Some people wait until they get a 300% profit. It is all up to you. If you don't have very many neopoints, it is a wise idea to sell at a lower point. Personally, I sell anytime my stocks are at 100% or above. I never sell anything below 100%

So lets go through a step-by-step process of how you would sell a stock...

1. Go to "My Portfolio"

2. Take a look the "% change" of all of your stocks. Are there any positive ones? Decide how much of a profit you want to make. Lets use the example below. My "% change" is at exactly 100%, meaning if I sold all of my shares of that stock, I would make a 100% profit.

Photobucket

3. To sell, click on the arrow button on the left next to the company icon. It should drop down and look like the picture below. This is the same stock as above. I have 2000 shares, so two boxes drop down to let me decide how many of each share I want to sell. Type in "1000" in each box.

Photobucket

4. Scroll down to the bottom of all of your stocks and click on "sell shares". This will take you to a page that asks you to confirm the transaction. Read it and make sure it is correct. Then confirm to make your sale.

Congrats! You have just made a lot of Neopoints on Neopets by using the stock market! Now, re-invest your neopoints into the stock market to make even more neopoints!

The best stocks to buy

There are no "good" or "bad" stocks in the Neopet stock market. You can never really tell when a stock is going to go down or up. As long as you buy at 15 np per share you are in good shape. NEVER sell at a loss UNLESS you bought the stock at a really high price and need to get out.

For example, I bought POWR when it was at around 250 np per share because it was a stock that was always high (in the 300s-500's). It never went below 300 for a couple of years, so I thought buying some shares at 200 np would be a good choice. It ended up going down to 15 np and was a waste of my money. I ended up selling at a loss because it most likely won't go back up to 250 np for a long time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do the stocks represent items sold in shops in Neopia or buyer demand?
A: No, unlike the real stock market, Neopet stocks are based purely on random change.

Q: Can stocks go bankrupt?
A: Yes, stocks in the past have gone bankrupt, but it does not happen very often. Ten stocks have went bankrupt so far.

Q: Does Neopets take a commission for selling stocks?
A Yes, Nigel the Chia (your stock broker) takes a 20 np commission.

Q: Do I always have to buy at 15 np a share?
A: No, but 15 is the lowest you can buy a share, so it is a better investment. Some people will buy at 16 or 17 if there are not any available at 15 np, but I never do because I can wait.
