Nerd Pride Day

The word nerd is a blanket term covering a full spectrum of nerds. There are several types of nerds and I am going to cover the most common types.

Computer Nerds These are the types of nerds that understand technology especially computers and understands not only how to use them but can explain in very detailed terms how they work.

Star Trek / Science Fiction Nerds These type of nerds love Star trek and other science fiction shows such as star wars and BSG. Only true sci-fi nerds will know what BSG means. This type of nerd often takes it beyond the love of a television show. Often time they will go to conventions dressed as their favorite characters or even buy memorabilia and collectables. When I was in junior high I had a boy I befriended who wrote me a letter in Klingon! I'm not a fan of star trek but I did find a friend who translated it. Then as a adult I met my husband and while he has never wrote me a letter in Klingon he does have a bunch of star trek collectors items and loves all things science fiction. I love computers and mmo's but he can have the star-trek.

Science / Math Nerds These people I really admire and while I'm decent at math these people can solve almost any math or science problem in record time. I wish I could be more like them honestly.

Band Nerd These are people who live and breathe all things band related. These are the type of nerds who without a doubt went to band camp and if you don't know the band camp reference please watch the American Pie 1 and 2 and American Pie band camp movie.

Comic Nerds This type of nerd often love all things comics. DC , Marvel you name it they love it. They often spend a great deal of time and money going to comicons (comic book conventions) and buying comic books. My brother in law buddy has approximately 20k comic books in his own collection he however does not dress up when he attends the conventions. My husband dabbles in comics books as well.

Gamer Nerds Gamer nerds often spend a great deal of time and energy playing some type of game. Generally most gamer nerds have a real passion for role playing games, computer and table top. They often times will throw LAN parties, for non nerds a LAN party is where several people bring their own computers over and connected them all to the same local area network and game with and against each other. There are a subset of gamer nerds who prefer LARP (Live Action Role Playing) games over computer games. Personally I'm a huge fan of RPG (role playing games) such as Everquest 2 and Rift. I almost in these games play a warlock, wizard or any other mage type. I never cared for world of warcraft because it was too nooob friendly. I recently purchased skyrim but have not got to play it as I'm addicted to making Squidoo pages.

Lit Nerds These people can be bookworms or be into literary works. These people are often pretty quiet unless you get them to talking / debating about a piece of literature. I'm a bookworm and I seldom go anywhere without my kindle fire.

Anime Nerds This type of nerd loves all things anime and often dress up as their favorite Japanese anime character at conventions. Out of all the nerd types listed this is the type I have a difficult time relating with as I really hate anime and cartoon entertainment.

Nerd by Association If you think about your circle of friends and most of them are nerds then guess what, there is pretty good chance you are a nerd too.

There are many other type of nerds but these are just a few of the most common. What type of nerd are you? Do you fit into one of these or are you like me and can say that you fit into many of them?

9 Watch Star Trek all day and write a fellow treki an email in Klingon
