DotA Nerubian Assassin guide

Ranked #1,928 in Games, #71,190 overall

An excellent hero who is skilled at ambushing someone unaware and taking their life. His abilities are all nuke based, which can both disable and use someone's mana power against them. He also has the ability to turn invisible... taking the time to strike someone in their most vital area before they even notice he's around.

Character type: Agility. Team affiliation: Scourge.

Skills

He no longer has the "Spiky Carapace" ability.

Impale: Slams the ground with massive claws, shooting spiked tendrils out in a straight line, dealing damage and hurling enemy ground units into the air in their wake. The nerubian assassin does damage in a line and stuns everyone there for a short time.

Mana Burn: Sends a bolt of negative energy that burns a target enemy unit's mana based on its Intelligence. Destroys some of your DOTA opponent's mana. Burned mana combusts, dealing damage to the target equal to the amount of mana burned.

Urna Swarm: Raises a Scarab from a corpse. The Scarab can burrow to hide itself, or use Infestation to silence and deal damage over time in an AoE.

Vendetta: The Nerubian Assassin turns invisible for a short period of time, and can break his invisibility with an incredibly damaging attack. This ultimate ability greatly improves his melee damage for the next hit. This effect is only if that strike breaks him out of windwalk.

Item Build

I like to buy equipment for Anubarak that makes his deadly ambushes even more so. One item in particular, the expensive energy burst wand Dagon, stands out as a good choice. You might also want a lothars edge if no invisible heroes are on your team. This will allow you sneak in without using vendetta (or the other way around), and use the other to escape after attacking. You can chase someone invisible with the Nerubian Assassin for a few more seconds until your dota abilities cooldown, then finish them off.

What stuff do you buy for him?

My best hero is Nerubian Assasin, the Anub'arak

Strategy

Have any nerubian assassin strategy or tips for defense of the ancients you'd like to share?

My item build for anub arak in the early game is Treads, Vladimirs offering, and arcane ring and dagon. Arcane ring provides mana, so anub'arak can use impale and mana burn more often without going back to the base for mana. Vladimirs offering will provide lifesteal that will benefit both you and your allies. And with dagon, anub'arak can kill in just one combo. butterfly can also help make the nerubian assasin faster and deal more damage. Upgrading your dagon is also necessary

I think Anub'arak works better with starting Perservance Phase Boots... In mid game you must have Sange&Yasha!!! in late game you must finish Bloodstone and Heart of Tarasque.. The luxury items are Buriza or Monkey King Bar... This is my item bulit for one of my favorite DotA heores....

If Nerubian ASSASSIN was really meant to be a mana-user, Ice Frog probably would have made his primary ability "Int" instead of "Agi" right? :/

Still, if you have a better idea, you could stick to that one. But, just so you know, my build is:

    L1 - Impale
    L2 - Spiked Carapace
    L3 - Impale
    L4 - Spiked Carapace
    L5 - Impale
    L6 - Vendetta
    L7 - Impale
    L8 - Stats
    L9 - Stats
    L10 - Mana burn
    L11 - Vendetta
    L12 - Spiked Carapace
    L13 - Mana burn
    L14 - Spiked Carapace
    L15 - Mana burn
    L16 - Vendetta
    L17 - Mana burn
    L18 up to L25 - Stats

Why, do you ask, I get Spiked Carapace instead of Mana Burn?
During Early game, NA has low HP. Unless you suggest he buys lots of Str type items. o.O

So, in order to get rid of that disadvantage, instead of adding strength(Waste of gold), I'd get the spiked carapace to increase his ARMOR. Also, you won't have to worry about creeps anymore or melee enemy heroes because of the return damage. Also makes FARMING a lot easier.

Now, in order to kill, do not, I repeat, DO NOT use skills while you are below L4 if necessary. Preserve your mana for those 2 skills later on... Vendetta + Impale. Vendetta makes it hard to evade your impale by "backstabbing". Once you use Vendetta, go behind your enemy, I don't mean the direction he is not facing. I meant face the side of the scourge. This way, Anub'Arak's opponent will lose the ability of running away. And even if he/she does, THAT'S when you use impale. Still not dead? Mana burn. :P

And then you run away if there are other opponents heading your way. If none, keep fighting the creeps. Even if you are alone, SPIKED CARAPACE will be by your side through thick and thin. And by thick, I mean melee. And by thin, I mean range. Whether it's a ranged enemy or melee, NA's spiked carapace has a defensive effect. You may not see it sometimes because it's permanent but if Luna was to hit Anub'Arak twice directly at L1 without any items at all, Anub'Arak's health would probably be below 300.

But when you get the Spiked Carapace, the damage is reduced, thanks to the +8 armor it gives. :)

    Item set:
    B.O.T. - Improves Vendetta.
S&Y - Improves Vendetta as well. Also adds damage and attack speed.
BFly - Improves damage and attack speed. With this, you probably won't even need MB.
BFury - Health Regen. Makes you harder to kill. Also makes it easier to kill enemies.
Blood Stone - Health Regen. Mana Regen. Health upgrade. This thing has it all!
Vladimir's/Satanic/M.O.M. - Lifesteal. Vlad makes it easy for you to survive against a few enemies. Also helpful for pushing. Creeps get lifesteal so you can get 3 parties of creeps to attack one tower. Satanic has a really neat lifesteal effect on NA. Also adds 20 damage. Not only that, 5 armor plus your current 8 armor makes it a total 13 armor! And when opponents are harassing you, use it's active effect and stun the opponent. This will make them run. XD
M.O.M. also gives a lifesteal effect and a faster attack speed. The only thing I hate about this effect is the side-effect which makes you very vulnerable to high-damage enemies like Mortred. :(

Story of the Assassin

Anub'arak was once the greatest champion of the Nerubians, but fell in the Second War of the Spider. He was resurrected by the Lich King Ner'zhul, who promised him eternal undeath in exchange for his unswerving loyalty. His layers of spiked armor are nearly impregnable, causing severe damage to attackers. When threatened, he shoots these spikes through enemies, maiming and disorienting them. He channels his dark powers into a bolt of disarming negative energy, and those who witness him blending into the shadows of the frozen tundra have nevered lived to tell the tale.

Double kill! Another well-done ambush by the DotA Nerubian Assassin. He's a lot of fun if people don't buy anti-invisibility items.
