Discover How To Overcome Nerves For Singers & Musicians
Stage fright and singing nerves before a gig or public performance is no joke. It is not only frightening, but the fear can start weeks before the date and cause many sleepless nights and anxiety all the way up to the moments before actually stepping out in front of the audience.
The main problem is that we all know that a certain amount of nerves are a good thing, it's part what makes for a good performance and actually having no nerves at all is probably worse.
The key is taking control of the nerves and turning them into a positive and not a negative.

Nerves Are A Good Thing!
Gaining Positive Not Negative Nerves
So we're agreed, a performance without nerves playing some part is going to be pretty dull. Positive nerves and 'butterflies in the stomach' are a good thing. They get the adrenalin moving around the body and give us a natural high, which is what we're trying to achieve. This then becomes infectious with the audience and this shared experience feeds the whole senario and so leads to a much more enjoyable event. What's Your Problem?
What's The Worst Thing That Can Happen?
- I'm going to forget the words
- I'm going to forget some chords
- People are going to think I'm rubbish
- I'm going to break a guitar string right in the middle of my guitar solo
- etc..
Hey! It's not that bad and believe it or not everyone wants you to do well.

Be Positive And Enjoy Yourself
The whole reason you are about to put yourself in front of your audience is because you want to entertain people and let's face it, the 'buzz' you're going to get when you're though is going to be AMAZING!There really is nothing quite like the experience of standing in front of a crowd and feeling and seeing a great response.
The key is looking and feeling confident and if you enjoy yourself then GUARANTEED your audience will too

- I was approached by a man I know to sing in his folk club as he wants to change the image from more traditional folk (which I don't sing - ever) to more commercial, modern stuff. I sing pop and rock. But - my performance is always ruined because of my nerves. I am still doing it but I know that I am not able to give of my best due to nerves; my heart bangs, my voice quavers and I finish songs early. I have a really good voice and cannot believe that at 66 I am still able to do it. I was a professional singer and sure I got nervous before going on stage but not like this. I could give it up if it's this hard but I don't want to. I enjoy it. It's for me. The guy helping me is very supportive and enjoys having me there. When friends come to see me they say they can see I am nervous but it is hard to make them understand and I am really fed up with it. I have been for NLP training (cognitive therapy) but long term it didn't work. I do visualisations and I did one last night before I went on where I performed brilliantly. But in reality I didn't and it's such a waste of my talent at this time.
