My Frustrations with the Constant Nervous Feeling

Was I born feeling nervous or did I grow into it? Who cares?

I've always wondered if having a nervous feeling was something that was genetic or it was something I learned growing up. My grandparents used to tell me that I would always want to go home to be with my Mommy whenever I would visit them, and old babysitters tell me I used to refuse to play outside or eat lunch. This was before my first memories and obviously WAY before I had heard anything of the possibility of nervous feelings, anxiety, ...etc. Stories like this would convince most people that it is all genetics. A constant nervous feeling is a terrible feeling for a child to have to live with. I'm fortunate now to understand the signs so I can treat these symptoms if I see them in my own children.

Do you need "professional help" for your constant nervous feeling?

Sure you need help for it, but do you really need to pay someone an arm and a leg?

Let's say you go to a "shrink"...you know, a psychotherapist for your constant nervous feeling. They will make you rehash pretty much your entire life story. You will be forced to puke up tragedy after tragedy,...and what EXACTLY will you get out of it? A cure for anxiety? Nope. You'll get all these memories you haven't experienced in years suddenly thrown in your face. You will hate your childhood almost as much as your wallet now hates you. Seeing a psychotherapist ain't cheap, that's for sure. You'd be much better of going the DIY route.. that is teaching yourself how to combat the nasty nervous feeling.

Will medication cure the nervous feeling?

Would you rather stop feeling nervous for the next few hours...or FOREVER?

I'm telling you right now, medication is NOT the way out of this mess. You can medicate yourself all day long and feel immediate relief, but once the medication wears off, you're back right where you started. Medication will only work for the short-term. The day your doctor tells you, "No more, you're becoming a junkie." is the day your anxiety, panic, and nervous feeling returns once again. Why would you even want to waste your time with something that has no long-term value? The nervous feeling can only be cured permanently through changing your perceptions of reality. You must stop the broken record in your mind telling you lies. You must stop the vicious circle of fearing the fear. Only then will you have accomplished long-term relief.
