Home espresso makers promise a lot but have difficulty delivering what they claim . Gleaming espresso machines with intricate plumbing, sleek looks and fancy ad campaigns, notoriously make all the right gurgling noises but the coffee they deliver leaves a lot to be desired.

The Nespresso machine was inpressive immediately due to its small 'footprint'.. I was excited that the Nespresso espresso machine didn't occupy space that could be dedicated to some other kitchen gadget. This is equally important in the kitchen where technology and gadgetry proliferation means no room for fat machines that don't pull their weight.

It's not just slim, it's trim. It's no coincidence surely that George Clooney is the marketing face. He fits the image like a glove - suave, cool, dark and debonnaire!

Assembly of the Nespresso coffee maker couldn't have been easier. Fill tank with water, plug in, flush through and then make the espresso drink of your choice.

The coffee cartridges load in a pleasing military hardware fashion - raise lever, insert cartridge, lower lever to cock the machine and then lock and load. Put your cup under spout and choose from single or large shot to make the perfect specialty coffee drink or the perfect espresso.

The aroma is instantly right and had heads popping back into the kitchen even before their previous cup was complete.. The coffee looks right too, slightly frothy, rich and glossy. Not too much noise either, just a hum from the compressor that drives the 19psi pressure.

Nespresso is also a philosophy as much as an espresso machine, you can't buy the coffee capsules in shops only online through membership of the Nespresso Club.

There are sixteen varieties of coffee available for the Nespresso, including three decaf options, and each is apparently the result of intensive tasting and selection of bean varieties giving coffee drinkers a selection.. The coffees are sourced from eco-friendly and sustainable places too. They even have a recycling program for your used capsules,.

So what does it taste like? Very good indeed, Nespresso seem to have cracked the problem of recreating a Gaggia in the home. The machine works almost instantly, only requiring about 30 seconds to 'warm up' and then only if it has been allowed to stand idle for any length of time.

Nespresso machines have been a great success, you'll find them in top restaurants, and sales have gone through the roof since the launch just a few years ago. If you are real foodie, then having one of these in the house is simply a no brainer; you won't get better coffee from any other machine on the market or probably anywhere else west of Italy!

The Nespresso Company commercializes both the machines and the coffee capsules. Tthe Nespresso capsules can only be purchased in Nespresso stores, called "Nespresso boutiques", via mail-order or online, while the machines are under restrictive license.

Nespresso designs a wide range of espresso machines. Although they are sold under the brand names of many well-known kitchen equipment producers, such as Krups, Magimix, Siemens, Philips and DeLonghi, nearly all Nespresso machines are manufactured by the Swiss company Eugster/Frismag in Romanshorn, one of the world's largest coffee machine producers. There are two exceptions being the Nespresso Lattissima models which are manufactured by DeLonghi, and the Magimix M100 is now made in China. Eugster/Frismag is largely unknown to the public because they are an OEM solely and do not sell machines under their own name.[3] In 2000, Nespresso began distributing machines bearing the "Nespresso" brand only.

In August 2010, it is reported that sales from Nespresso have been growing at an average of 30 percent a year over the past 10 years and more than 20 billion capsules were sold since 2000 at a current selling price equivalent to about USD 0.43 to USD 0.62 a capsule.

This fall, Nestlé Nespresso will add a new coffee, Kazaar Limited Edition 2010, to its 16 Grand Cru portfolio. This product is unique thanks to the unprecedented scorching intensity of the blend as well as the savory mix of two sorts of Robusta and one Arabica coffee from the South and Central America.

"Grands Crus" blends offer 16 different types of coffee and also are ground to different grades of fineness, to bring out the intended aromatic notes and flavour.

Varieties of coffee contained in the Nespresso capsules come from different regions of the world. The mixture, called "Grands crus" in the brand communication,[4] are made based on robusta and arabica. Some cafes in the range are 100% Arabica: Arpeggio, Livanto, Volluto, Cosi and Vivalto. Other lines are mixed with less than 5% of robusta.

Each capsule makes one cup of coffee. The capsules contain an average 5.5 grams of coffee; while the quantity is generally accepted as correct for the preparation of espresso, the machines used by professional and personal coffee makers, and other systems of pods, such as ESE (Easy Serving Espresso), use 7 grams. An espresso is ideally served at 40 ml (1.41 imp fl oz; 1.35 US fl oz), a half espresso at 25 ml (0.88 imp fl oz; 0.85 US fl oz) and a Lungo at 110 ml (3.87 imp fl oz; 3.72 US fl oz).
