Wasps Speak Video

I tried unsuccessfully to find a Neta Snook Southern video. The WASP women in this video are probably much like her.

Description of Her Old Plane

Neta Snook Southern, one of the first women pilots in the United States, said her old plane was made of wood and cloth, had no gas gauge, and the instrument panel consisted of an altimeter panel and a dollar watch hanging from a hook.

Interestly enough, that was not her only claim to fame - she was also known as the instructor who taught Amelia Earhart how to fly.

Neta was a great lady and absolutely full of life. I first met her in 1970, while a college student conducting research. She lived on Shannon Rd. in Los Gatos, CA and used to drive her pony cart to the local Safeway store at the corner of Blossom Hill and San Jose-Los Gatos Rd. for groceries.
