New Show: Mental

Premiere: May 26 9/8c on FOX

A medical mystery drama featuring Dr. Jack Gallagher, a radically unorthodox psychiatrist who becomes Director of Mental Health Services at a Los Angeles hospital where he takes on patients battling unknown, misunderstood and often misdiagnosed psychiatric conditions. Gallagher delves inside their minds to gain a true understanding of who his patients are, allowing him to uncover what might be the key to their long-term recovery.

As seen through the eyes of doctors and patients who, as Jack points out, have more in common then they're willing to admit, MENTAL also tracks the romantic and personal relationships of the team of doctors and hospital staff who work closely together as they delve into the mysteries, oddities and wonders of the human brain.

New Show: Glee

Special Preview May 19 9/9c on FOX

"About Glee"
About Glee

From Ryan Murphy, the creator of "Nip/Tuck" and "Popular," comes GLEE, a one-hour musical comedy that follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to transform the school's Glee Club and inspire a group of ragtag performers to make it to the biggest competition of them all: Nationals.

McKinley High School's Glee Club used to be at the top of the show choir world, but years later, a series of scandals have turned it into a haven for misfits and social outcasts. WILL SCHUESTER (Matthew Morrison, Broadway's "Hairspray"), a young optimistic teacher, has offered to take on the Herculean task of restoring McKinley's Glee Club to its former glory with the help of fellow teacher EMMA PILLSBURY (Jayma Mays, "Ugly Betty"). It's a tall order when the brightest stars of the pitch-imperfect club include KURT (Chris Colfer), a nerdy soprano with a flair for the dramatic; MERCEDES (Amber Riley), a dynamic diva-in-training who refuses to sing back-up; ARTY (Kevin McHale, "Zoey 101"), a geeky guitarist who spends more time avoiding bullies than chasing girls; and TINA (Jenna Ushkowitz, "Spring Awakening"), an awkward girl who needs to suppress her stutter before she can take center stage.

Will's only hope lies with two true talents: RACHEL BERRY (Lea Michele, "Spring Awakening"), a perfectionist firecracker who is convinced that show choir is her ticket to stardom; and FINN HUDSON (Cory Monteith, "Kyle XY"), the popular high school quarterback with movie star looks and a Motown voice who must protect his reputation with his holier-than-thou girlfriend, QUINN (Dianna Agron), and his arrogant teammate, PUCK (Mark Salling).

Driven by his secret past, Will is determined to do whatever it takes to make Glee great again, even though everyone around him thinks he's nuts. He's out to prove them all wrong - from his tough-as-nails wife TERRI SCHUESTER (Jessalyn Gilsig, "Nip/Tuck") to McKinley's cheerleading coach SUE SYLVESTER (guest star Jane Lynch, "Best In Show," "Role Models") to an ?ber-hip world that thinks jazz hands and sequined tuxedos litter the road to infamy rather than pave the way to Hollywood dreams.

Featuring a soundtrack of hit songs from past and present, GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante Di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan and John Kousakis serve as co-executive producers. Murphy directed the pilot.

Dirty Sexy Money Cancelled

Posted Dec. 31, 2008

Dirty Sexy Money star Blair Underwood has confirmed the struggling U.S. show is set to be axed - despite network executives refusing to admit it's been cancelled.

The show, which airs on American network ABC, is reportedly one of several shows the broadcaster is considering for the chop, including Eli Stone - which stars Angelina Jolie's ex Jonny Lee Miller.

Pushing Daisies executive producer Bryan Fuller announced in November his show had also been cancelled from ABC's schedule due to poor ratings.

And although TV bosses haven't officially stated the show will end, actor Underwood, who plays Simon Elder in the show, confesses the cast and crew have called it a day.

He tells E! Online, "As far as I'm concerned, we're not doing any more shows.

"ABC officially doesn't want to use the C-word, cancelled, but we're not on the schedule. I would pretty much say we're cancelled."

The show, which focuses on the lives of a wealthy New York family, first appeared on the small screen in September 2007.

Last month, the show's star William Baldwin appealed to Dirty Sexy Money's fanbase to write to ABC in a bid to save to ailing show.

The Ex List Axed

Posted Oct. 29, 2008

The Ex-List will become the ex-CBS program on Friday after its ratings deteriorated further last week week as only 5.3 million viewers tuned in. It will be replaced next Friday with a repeat of NCIS. It is the first hourlong scripted series to bite the dust this season. The series, based on an Israeli hit show, Mythological X, concerns a woman, played by Elizabeth Reaser, who searches for her soulmate after a psychic tells her that she has already met him and that she must find him if she is ever going to get married. There was no word about whether the soulmate will ever be revealed. Daily Variety reported that the series, which is shot in the San Diego area, was in the midst of production on its eleventh episode when the axe fell.

Dirty Sexy Money Premiere

Wednesday, Oct. 1 on ABC

Expect to See: Patrick will run for Senate and his mistress Carmelita will be trying to keep herself low profile by posing as a man. Nicole Richie will play Sarah's (Yvonne Strahovski) high-school nemesis, and Jordana Brewster will play the ex-girlfriend who broke Chuck's heart. As for plot: Casey ( Adam Baldwin) will struggle with the order to "disappear" Chuck as the government builds a new Intersect computer, and Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) plan their wedding.

Desperate Housewives Premiere

Sunday, Sept. 28 on ABC

Expect to See: Five years have passed on Wisteria Lane, and a lot has changed. When Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) returns to town, she wonders just what the heck happened.

Heroes Premiere

Meanwhile, a rejuvenated Sylar (Zachary Quinto) goes on another spree to absorb other people's powers. Hiro (Masi Oka) gets a new nemesis in a young woman (Brea Grant) whose super-speed defies his ability to manipulate time, while the Petrelli family once again finds itself working at cross-purposes. Big Bang Theory Premiere

With Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk gone from the regular cast this season, there's plenty of room for new faces. Davis Bloome, a Metropolis bartender will become part of the story and ultimately become Doomsday (who in the comics killed Superman). Another villian, Tess, will arrive on the scene when she takes control of Lex Luthor's estate in his absence. She's a woman of many talents, including an otherwordly power of persuasion that works on everyone, including Clark. Justin Hartley will also return for 12 episodes as Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow.

House Premiere

Tuesday, Sept. 16 on FOX

Expect to See: The tragic events of last season's finale won't lack for fall-out, as Wilson considers leaving the hospital and House is forced to look for a new friend. One candidate for House's bromance is a prickly private investigator who may stick around for a few episodes.

Bones Premiere

Wednesday, Sept. 3 on FOX

Expect to See: Still smarting from the betrayals of last season's finale, Booth and Bones fly Across the Pond to do a little lecturing, but they find themselves investigating a pair of murders in London. Gossip Girl Premiere

Monday, Sept. 1 on The CW

Expect to See: Serena will rebound from her break-up with Dan by dating a lacrosse player. Dan will decide he needs to live more so that he can write what he knows. This leads to him hanging out with Chuck Bass, which only means trouble is bound to follow. Blair returns from Europe with a new guy (Patrick Heusinger). Supernatural Premieres

Thursday, Sept. 18 on The CW

Fans didn't really take to the addition of Bela and Ruby to the proceedings, but that's not stopping the show from adding a couple of new characters this year. Both Kristy (a sexy, sassy, adaptable young woman) and the older Castiel (a calmer, more charismatic, good at getting people's attention man) will show up in the premiere and be around for at least 5 episodes each. Mitch Pileggi ("The X-Files") will also guest as Sam and Dean's maternal grandfather, as fans find out more about the Winchester boys' parents, John and Mary, this season.

New Show 2008: Life on Mars

Premiere: October 9th at 10 PM on ABC

Based on the BBC hit of the same name, the American remake takes NYPD detective Sam (Jason O'Mara) from 2008 to 1973 after a car accident. Aside from trying to figure out how to get home, Sam must continue to solve crimes in this era without the help of modern-day technologies. 1973 and 2008 collide in such a fascinating way, that this time-bender is a fall must!

New Show 2008: 90210

Premiere: September 2nd at 8 PM on The CW

Some of us probably remember Brenda, Brandon, Kelly, Donna and Dylan roaming the halls of West Beverly High School. Everyone's fave zip code is back with an all-new cast-and some familiar faces, too! Kelly (Jennie Garth), Donna (Tori Spelling), and Brenda (Shannen Doherty) are allegedly set to return for a few episodes-as is Peach Pit owner Nat (Joe E. Tata). Definitely a must for those who want a dose of nostalgia!

How I Met Your Mother

Premiere: September 22nd at 8:30 PM on CBS

Where we left off: Ted (Josh Radnor) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) rekindle their friendship; Barney's one-night-stand with Robin (Colbie Smulders) may have sparked feelings in him; Ted's car accident made him rethink his relationship with Stella (Sarah Chalke), which led to a proposal.

What's to come: Is Stella the mother? Does she say yes to Ted's proposal? Sarah Chalke returns for more episodes in season 3, so there's always that possibility on both counts. And there may also be a possibility of a Barney/Robin relationship-if he learns to forego the sleeping around, that is.

Heroes

Premiere: September 22nd at 9 PM on NBC

Where we left off: The release of a deadly virus-and ultimate global pandemic-is thwarted; Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is shot by a mystery person; Adam Monroe/Takezo Kenzei (David Anders) is left buried alive; immortal Claire (Hayden Panettiere) is tired of keeping secrets and willing to reveal her powers to the world-until her presumed dead father (Jack Coleman) returns.

What's to come: We're told who Nathan's mystery shooter really is, as well as find out Nathan's fate; Sylar makes a victim out of one of the heroes-or does he? And zap-happy Elle (Kristen Bell) will return for a multi-episode arc.

Ugly Betty

Premiere: September 25th at 8 PM on ABC

Where we left off: Our heroine Betty (America Ferrera) was left with two choices: accept a marriage proposal from Henry (Christopher Gorman) or go to Italy with Gio (Freddy Rodriguez); Daniel (Eric Mabius) finds out he has a long-lost son; and Hilda (Ana Ortiz) finds out that her perfect new boyfriend, Coach Diaz (Eddie Cibrian) is married.

What's to come: One big change to the show is the fact that filming will permanently move from Los Angeles to New York City. Lindsay Lohan will also return for a few more episodes as Kimberly, Betty's high school nemesis. And we're curious to see just how Rebecca Romijn's pregnancy will be incorporated into the series!

Stargate Universe Coming Soon

SCI FI Channel announced that it has given a green light to produce Stargate Universe, the third series in the long-running SF franchise, with production on the MGM Television Entertainment show set to begin in early 2009.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new show. (Atlantis ends its five seasons next year but will continue in a two-hour telefilm.)

"SCI FI has enjoyed tremendous success with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, and we're proud to be the home of the new Stargate Universe," Mark Stern, executive vice president, original programming for SCI FI, said in a statement. "Universe will continue the Stargate legacy of vibrant storylines and compelling adventures, but will re-invent the format in a whole new way."

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by the Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never-ending mission as the Stargate Universe crew discovers that the ship is unable to return to Earth and that they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission.

Stargate Universe will debut as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI. Following its premiere, Universe will assume a regular hourly slot in the summer of 2009.

Stargate Atlantis Run Ends On Season 5

Space drama Stargate Atlantis will conclude its run on Sci Fi Channel after the current, fifth season ends next January -- but the network has greenlit a two-hour Atlantis movie to run after that and says the show will live on as a network franchise.

After airing on Sci Fi sometime next year, the untitled Atlantis movie will be sold as a home-video title by producer MGM, Sci Fi told Multichannel News on Wednesday.

MGM this year released two financially successful straight-to-DVD movies made after progenitor series Stargate SG-1 ended a 10-year run of first-run cable episodes on Sci Fi. MGM and the show producers are scheduled to make more in DVDs in future. A movie franchise is also envisioned for Stargate Atlantis.
Longtime Stargate writers and producers (and Atlantis show runners) Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie will write the Atlantis feature script. Other details, such as how many cast members would participate or who would direct, were not immediately available.

"We're excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas," Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and currently executive producers on Atlantis, said in a statement. "The successes of the two original Stargate [direct-to-video] movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise."

Not much to say or see about the fall season

fewer pilots shot due to strike

The broadcast networks' new shows have been announced and will be heavily promoted. But there's still nothing much to see. Fewer pilots than usual were shot this year, due in part to the Hollywood writers strike and the straight-to-series policy gaining favour at some networks.

With many rookie series only now going into production, lots of them exist as titles, concepts, scripts, stars and time slots on the schedule (all subject to change). Even more than past seasons, this fall will usher in a roster of promises and dreams.

In previous years, a TV critic could expect to preview a majority of fall series by mid-June. DVDs would arrive from each network with the caveat that "numerous changes may be made" before the airdate. These works-in-progress offered useful clues to what awaited the audience come fall. They gave critics a chance to start spreading the word about any new series that stood out

Tell Me You Love Me

The HBO series has been axed after just one season.

Disney Bosses: Cyrus Not Quitting Montana Show

Disney bosses have denied reports the forthcoming Hannah Montana series will be singer/actress Miley Cyrus' last - despite the teen sensation admitting it was time the show ended.

Cyrus shot to fame in the Disney favourite at aged 11, and is currently preparing to shoot the third season of the hit show.

The young star - now 15 - told America's E! News that she thought it may be time to hang up the Montana mantle, as she had been working so hard on the show for nearly five years.

She said, "We're thinking this is our last season.

"I just think we did a lot of episodes. We basically did two seasons in one last year. Usually people would do one season that would be, like, 16 episodes, and we did almost 30 episodes!"

But the show's representatives have denied the show will finish after its third season, and insist they are glad to still have Cyrus as part of the "Disney family".

The spokesperson tells E! Online, "Miley said it best when she said she's delighted to be part of the Disney family. We start production on the third season of Hannah Montana on August 4 and have an option for a fourth season beyond that.

"We look forward to the Hannah Montana feature film coming to a theatre near you in Spring 2009."

Showtime Renews The Tudors

Press Release April 23, 2008

SHOWTIME is ramping up for a third season of palace intrigue and royal drama, premiering in 2009. Production is slated to begin on June 16th in Dublin, Ireland with series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers set to return. Last year, both the series and Rhys Meyers earned Golden Globe® nominations. And, season one of THE TUDORS is currently one of CBS Home Entertainment's top-selling titles.

The Tudors DVDs

The Tudors presents the rarely dramatized tumultuous early years of King Henry VIII s nearly 40 year omnipotent reign (1509-1547). In addition to his famous female consorts and 20+ year marriage to Catherine of Aragon to the infamous dalliance with Anne Boleyn the series delves in to Henry s most notable political relationship and the deconstruction of the Roman Catholic Church in England.

Showtime Renews The L Word

Press release March 10, 2008

SHOWTIME has renewed the critically-acclaimed, groundbreaking lesbian drama THE L WORD® for a sixth and final season. THE L WORD® will culminate early next year in eight final episodes, marking the end of an era chronicling the lives of these iconic characters who have played a pivotal role in changing cultural perceptions of lesbians and the transgender community on and off screen. Production will resume in early summer.

The L Word DVDs

Four years after Showtime made gay men the focus of its original series Queer as Folk, it was time for a little turnabout with The L Word (bad title, great show). Centering around a tight-knit group of lesbians in Los Angeles, this drama was far removed from its working-class male counterpart in both style and content. While the men of QAF enjoyed a fabulous if melodramatic life on the middle-class streets of Pittsburgh, the women of The L Word lived it up in sunny California, with gorgeous houses, glamorous careers, and sexy wardrobes. Ironically, though, The L Word adhered more to the everyday drama of ensemble shows like thirtysomething than the soap opera antics of QAF, and the results were surprisingly heartfelt and effective, appropriately stylish but never over the top. There was plenty of room for titillation, but creator Ilene Chaiken fashioned from the start a show centered on characters and not just sex, aiming for the heart rather than... well, other places.

New Show 2008: Fringe

Premiere: September 9th at 8 PM on FOX

Touted as the next X-Files, Fringe is a sci-fi series about a young FBI agent (Anna Torv) working alongside an institutionalized scientist (John Noble) and his son (Dawson's Creek's Joshua Jackson) to find answers among unexplained phenomena. Creator J.J. Abrams hopes to emulate the success of previous series (Felicity, Alias, and Lost) and, after a successful screening of pilot at Comic-Con this past summer, he likely will.
