Never Stop Learning

A lense about my passion for learning.

The Passion Begins

Learning For Learning's Sake

Learn as if you were going to live forever (Mahatma Gandhi)

Learn About Mahatma Gandhi

I was the first person in my family to go to University. This meant there was no expectation, no pressure; just unconditional support and an awareness that my loved ones would be proud of me whatever happened.

I couldn't really fail in this context and as soon as I realised that as with all things in life, the more you put in, the more you get out, learning became a pleasure rather than just a means to an end.

Learning has provided me with opportunites that I wouldn't have thought possible. It's taken me to new places around the world, it's given me work and lifestyle options, and it's even responsible for my wonderful family - I met Louise at University and the rest as they say is history - now that's what I call the power of learning.

The best kind of learning in my humble opinion is learning for learning's sake and this lense has been built with this very much in mind.

Why I Squidoo

A Place To Learn, A Place To Share

Tim Berners Lee

Tim Berners Lee is a British computer scientist who followed his dream of a better, easier way to communicate via computers. In 1989 he invented the World Wide Web.

As the World Wide Web has evolved it has revolutionalised how we communicate, interact and acquire knowledge. This is particularly the case with the move towards what is known as web 2.0. Web 2.0 links people, it's a place where people contribute, share, collaborate and learn.

Squidoo is the perfect example of Web 2.0 and is as close as you get to Tim Berners Lee original concept of the web as a democratic, personal and do it yourself medium of communication.

Forensic Science
This lense is based on my forensic science website which is designed to help anybody looking for informed and detailed information on forensic science definitions, history, topic areas, theory and practice, careers, debates, CSI, degree and study options.

Criminal Profiling At The FBI
The second in a series of lenses dedicated to the fascinating topic of criminal profiling.
Manchester United
The first in a series of lenses about the biggest football (soccer) teams in the world.
Forensic Psychology
In recent years forensic psychology and related topics such as criminal profiling have been the subject of a whole host of books, films and television series.

While this has undoubtedly raised the profile of forensic psychology, the subject has often been presented in a distorted, sensationalised and inaccurate way.

With this very much in mind, this lense outlines what you need to be aware of in order to provide a satisfactory answer to the question, what is forensic psychology?
The 1980's
I was 11 years old when the 1980's began. By the end of the decade I had moved from childhood to adulthood, fallen in love for the first time, had my heart broken for the first time, had my first beer, got my first job, drove my first car and many other firsts that I couldn't possible mention.

Yes the 1980's was my defining decade and as I approach the big 40 at an alarming rate this lense is my personal trip down memory lane. I also want to give my two sons a glimpe into their dad's past. I am certain they will find the 1980's a strange and unrecognisable place, but I hope to show them that it was also a wonderful place at the time.

Stand Out From The Crowd

The more I learn about Squidoo, the more I like it. So much so, I have dedicated a whole page to Squidoo on my forensic science website. The page explains what Squidoo is all about, why you should start building your own Squidoo pages and if you already are, how you can get the most out of Squidoo.

To Teach Is To Learn Twice

Everyone's an expert about something. What's your topic? (Seth Godin)

Learn About Seth Godin

The other great thing about Web 2.0 driven innovations is not only do they allow you to share your knowledge, but they also connect you with people who are interested in what you have to say.

When I gave lectures in forensic psychology my audience was restricted to the number of students who showed up on the day.

In contrast, over 6000 people list forensic psychology as one of their main interests on their Myspace profile? These people are from all over the world, some are thinking about studying the topic, some have just started studying it, some have studied forensic psychology in depth, some are actually forensic psychologists and many are just fascinated by the subject in general.

There's is no better way of learning more about a topic than engaging with people who share your enthusiasm. Web 2.0 is allowing me to share my passion for forensics across the globe.

Be Inspired

If you're not sure what web 2.0 is all about, I promise you will get the idea if you watch this outstanding video by Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University.

Let the video fully load so you can watch it without interruption all in one go, it's a lot more powerful this way.

David - I'm going to have to spend some time with the Open University site! Great resource (and great logo!) Are you familiar with the eLearning Guild? Google will get you there.

Hi David_Webb, Very great lens. It is full of useful information with great quotes from great persons. Fantastic work. I really like this lens and rated 5*. I never forget the golden words "Learn as if you were going to live forever" from Mahathma Gandhi. Indeed, this lens is about your passion for learning. You being a Psychology Lecturer and a Distance Learning Tutor, I am sure it will be more interesting to you to have a look at onlinestudies , a similar informative site about online studies on Psychology , online Spanish courses and more online studies courses.

Tim, what a fantastic lens you've built here. I bumped across it while looking for some of the best People Who Matter pages to link to as examples. I'm going to include your lens in my plexo. I hope you get many more readers as a result!
