Collecting Rookie Cards, Inserts, Jerseys and Numbered Cards

First we will start with Rookie cards
The most desired and widely collected of all sports cards

In today's world of card collecting theirs many brands and big fancy names to choose from, Packs of cards can cost you $2.50 or $450.00 pre a pack. One example of a rookie card that should be put away for the future is Sidney Crosbys Rookie card. His card as almost doubled in price. When first issued in the 2005/2006 season the card had a book value of $200.00 and now just a little over a year later has a bookvalue of $350.00.

On the other hand this is not ture for all rookie cards, Eric Lindros is a fine example of this. His rookie card was worth $80.00 back in the early 1990's but because of all of his injurys his card can now be had for almost near to nothing, book value today is around $8.00.

Pulling a rookie card is all odd releted. Most of todays sets have a ratio of 1 to 4. So if you buy an unopened box of 24 packs, odds are that you will pull 7 rookie cards from that one box (on average). Todays sets noramlly have 200 cards to the base set (common cards) with an average of 50 rookies so that the complete set is 250 cards. Well with just a little simple math you can see that completeing a set with all the rookies is going to be a very diffeclt task! In the above senerio you would have to buy at least 8 sealed boxes to get your 50 rookie cards. Now lets hope you dont come across a double to ruin your day... Odds are you will.
I guess this is where eBay can come in handy getting those missing rookies cards.

Game Used Memorabilia

Inserts, Jerseys and everything in between!

Finding a memorabilia card can be 1 in every pack to one in every 50,000 packs or more. You can pull a card with a piece of game worn jersey, a piece of a bat or ball, peice of a glove to a puck. Heck you may even pull an authantic autograph.

This is what is driving todays hobby. Most of us have that lucky feeling that maybe this is it, the same as when you run out to buy a lottary ticket. You never know if that ticket is going to hold your winning numbers. The same can be said about todays sport cards. Every pack has a chance of being a big WINNER!

It can be such a rush pulling a autograph personally signed by your favorite player. Like this autograph rookie card of Thomas Vanik numbered 823 of 999. My son and I had bought a few packs of SP Authentic back in the 05/06 season. My son was thrilled because he knew the rookie (I did not). I was going to sell him in my eBay store with a book value of $25.00, but my son told me not too! Well I'm glad I took his advice because now our auto RC is up to $100.00 and climbing.

Great Rookies, Inserts, Jerseys and More in our Store!

We have always got graet deals for you. Most item are 50% off of book value.

Jersey, Swatchs and Parallels Cards!

Lets have a quick look at what some of these insert cards look like!

Parallels Insert Cards
These are fairly common parallels or insert type of cards. In this example of 1996/97 Pinnalce Summit both cards are numbered 76 the card on the right is called Summit Ice. The common card in this case Steve Yzerman #76 is worth $2.00. The Summit Ice #76 is 6x to 15x common card, so this card could be worth up to $30.00

Game Used Jersey Card
2003/2004 Titanium Authentic. A Common numbered jersey card. This one of Jeremy Roenick is #66 of 170. Not bad there's only 170 like it in the world... On the back of card it states that its an Authentic Game Worn Jersey.

Game Used Jersey Swatch
2006/2007 Ryan Miller, Frozen Artifacts Swatches Blue. 23 of only 50 made. In this example there where print runs of 250 which are common, then print run of 50, Blue, then print runs of 10 called Platinum. As the number in the print run goes down the value of the card goes up. This Blue swatch is .75 to 1.5 higher in value then the common swatch. A great pull!!!

Even insert cards that are worth $2.00 today can be worth $20.00 in ten years!!!

Sticks, Pucks and More then one Jersey

Quick look at what some of these insert cards look like!

Game Used Stick Card
2001/02 Fleer Legacy Jean Beliveau game used stick card. Odds on pulling this was 1 in 36. Its Amazing to hold something in your hands knowing that it was played in a real Montreal Canadians NHL game.

Game Used Jersey and Puck
2000/2001 SPx Winning Materials. Odds where 1 in 60 on getting one of these. This is a nice Jocelyn Thibault card with a game used jersey and game puck. It always makes me wonder how many mini pucks they get out of a full puck?

Double Triple and Quad Game Used Jersey Cards
2001/2002 Crown Royale Triple Threads, odd where 1 in 97 packs of pulling one of these triple jersey. This cards features three different players with three game used jerseys, Craig Conroy, Marc Savard & Roman Turek

Buy A Guide

My number one rule "Buy A Guide"

It can't be stated enough "Buy A Guide"

There are many good guides out there for everything thats collectible. The Canadian Sports Collector and Beckett are two. They range in price from around $5.00 to $15.00 (depending on issue). These guides are the two that I use most but there are others. There is a guide that is the grand daddy of them all I guess you can say, it's "A Chariton Standard Catalogue Hockey Cards". This guide will have almost every hockey card ever made. Cost is around the $40.00 range.
