New Forest Habitat Scheme Achievements
I am writing this New Forest information to tell you what is happening within an area of the New Forest covering the south coast including Hampshire and Dorset, U.K. The New Forest Habitat Scheme is all about caring for the environment. The Scheme which is Europe's largest habitat scheme just celebrated their first year anniversary. Congratulations to them!! In the first year they have already accomplished so many things and I know there will be many more to come. As an avid follower of the New Forest Habitat Scheme I would like to share with you some of their successes.
- They have made payments to commoners to encourage them to turn their ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs out on the Forest. The practice is not financially viable yet very critical to sustain the ecology and the landscape.
- In order to make the Forest more user-friendly for people with disabilities they have replaced the gates.
- Supporting the New Forest stallion scheme to ensure only the best stallions are turned out on the Forest.
These are just a few of the projects that have been implemented, designed, ongoing and completed to make the New Forest the best it can be. It is wonderful to see so many caring and dedicated individuals that will dedicate their time for the preservation of this are.

New Forest History
What would this New Forest information Lens be without a little bit of history?
The New Forest is a former royal hunting area in the south of England. It was created in 1079 by William the Conqueror as a hunting area, mainly deer. It is a unique area of historical, ecological and agricultural significance and retains many of the rural practices conceded by the Crown in historical times to local people.
The Principal of these is the pasturing of ponies, cattle, pigs and donkeys in the open Forest by local inhabitants known as commoners.
The New Forest has also been an important source of timber for the Crown.
So with all the New Forest information that has been provided to you I can't imagine why one would not want to go here. Cheers to the New Forest Stewardship Habitat Scheme and may they keep up the good work!!!

- It's nice to see another lens on The New Forest, and it's good that we can introduce this unique area to those who have never heard of it. I am pleased to see that the work of keeping the forest open to the public and to protect the area and it's wildlife is continuing. I have added this to my lens on The New Forest. Nice to meet another lensmaster from the south.

- With the never-ending expansion of cities, our forests are slowly disappearing and the animals have nowhere to go. This is a brilliant plan to show other citizens of the planet - like the animals and plants - that they, too, belong here. This is where we stop being selfish and start sharing. Fantastic lens! Sundae ;-)

- Thank you Sundae for sharing your views on such an important ecological matter. As you state and I agree, we much learn to share this planet with all creatures. Living in the New Forest, I see all this first-hand and dread each time I see a sign saying "Land for Sale".
