New Moon is the sequel to the movie Twilight. It is based on the Stephanie Meyer book of the same name.
Edward Cullen leaves Bella. He does this because he believes the relationship between himself and Bella is doomed. Bella seems insistent that Edward make her into a vampire. Edward is opposed to such an idea (even though the movie presents no drawbacks to being a vampire. You live forever, you can walk around in daylight, you don't have to eat people or sleep in coffins). He thinks it would be best for Bella if he left. Early on, he does just that.
Bella is despair turns to her old friend Jacob for company. Jacob is of course in love with Bella. Jacob makes is feelings clear, but Bella still desires Edward. Jacob truns out to be a werewolf, a transformation triggered by the mere presence of the Cullen family. This transformation happens to several of the young men of the reservation and is called a natural reaction to the unnatural cold ones.
Thus the stage is set with Edward the vampire and Jacob the werewolf both courting the heroine Bella.

Team Jacob
New moon begs the question, team Edward or team Jacob?One should note that book describes Edward as an adonis. The seems in stark contrast to the actual physical appearance of Robert Pattinson in the movie. Robert seems more the traditional vampire in looks, thin, pale and not particularly physically attractive.
Edward is described as dead and cold. Vampires are called cold ones. On the other hand Jacob has an above average body temperature, is still technically alive (although he is supernatural). Jacob will age as Bella ages.
It is difficult to imagine a 100 year or more old vampire lying in glade with teenage girl conversing. Any adult male over 30 will tell you it is difficult to converse with a teenager. The differences in age leads to differences in concerns, problems, take on life and almost every point that would be touched upon in conversation. In addition, Edward is shown to be old fashioned. He clings to the mannerisms and customs of the time in which he was born (most likely becuase becoming a vampire has excluded him from the company of humans). Edward would thus be out of touch with todays adults, and even that much more so with a teenage girl.
Jacob and Bella make a much better pair based on their age.
