Malta implements New Rules in the Timeshare Industry
On May 31, 2010, Malta's House of Representatives gathered and implemented sturdier rules in their country's timeshare industry. They imposed "Timeshare and timeshare-like promotions and licensing of Off-site Personal Contacts representatives for their regulations this year. This law states that representatives of timeshare companies who fall in the criteria must deposit %u20AC2,500 to the Malta Tourism Authority as guarantee of their partnership.
This time, the government of Malta will be stricter. For the past years, the abusive timeshare sales in Europe made a negative impact on its trade and industry. The Malta Government is now very serious in improving their economy and forgetting what had happened in the past years, that is why they are now stricter and they have changed their laws.
If timeshare companies violate the law, then, they must pay %u20AC2,300.However, while %u20AC2,300 is the general fine, there are other fines depending on the abuse and violations that a company does.
They are as follows:
%u20AC2,300 - If they abuse or treat tourists and MTA officials badly
%u20AC1,200 - If they get involved in an argument with other timeshare dealers
%u20AC1,200 - If they use automobiles in such a way that disturbs tourists or MTA officials
%u20AC450 - Are for minor offences they commit like not wearing ID's, misinforming tourists or clients, etc.
%u20AC250 - If they do not wear their uniform that was issued by MTA properly
Imposing this law is very important not only for the timeshare and tourism industry but of course for the government of Malta. They want to have more tourists because tourism plays a huge role in enhancing their economy and their country as a whole. They want to bring back all that they have lost because of the abusive behaviors of the OPC's before. Now that they are imposing this new law, they believe that their country is on its way to peace, harmony, and growth.
