New Year, New Business Goals

The New Year's Resolutions - easy to keep this year

Whether you make them or not, New Year's Resolutions are goals that could and should be completed every year. Why do so many people fail? Because some of us aim for unrealistic goals. This year, start your business resolutions for 2012 off right, with small steps.

Improve customer service

Greet everyone who walks into your store

One of your New Year's resolutions may have been to increase your sales by X amount or percentage by next December. But how about just increasing your customer interactions? There is no doubt that this economy is still a little uncertain so aiming to increase your overall sales might be a little frustrating to accomplish and will get more daunting as the year continues.

One easy goal to accomplish - say hello to every customer who enters your store.

Customers who feel engaged and establish a personal relationship with a small business are more likely to think of you the next time they are in need of a Valentine's Day gift, Mother's Day goodie or special birthday request.

Better Business Blogging

Better content and quality

type=textIf you don't have a blog or think it's not for your business, you better think again! We addressed the need for small businesses to hop on the blog wagon already in post a couple of months ago.

If you took our advice or have been blogging for a while now, it is time to step up your content. One great goal for the New Year is to increase your postings by one a week. If you averaged only one a week, aim to at least have two each week and so on. One more post a week, with great, relevant content will increase your brand's exposure, while also establishing your expertise in a particular subject.

Also a great goal, bump up your social media content. Aim to spend 15 minutes more a day on Facebook and Twitter and see how much more engagement you create with your customer base.

Keep it new, keep it fresh

Change up those displays both in store and online

Customers love a good eye catch. Instead of aiming to stock a larger amount of inventory, aim to keep things fresh on the floor. A great resolution can be to change the window displays every month, tweak your homepage on your website and add new items to the checkout area.

Once your inventory begins to flow out quicker, by all means stock up on more but keep your floor clear of clutter and full of color.
