This night needs to be planned in advance. You can take a trip for example, or just make a party at home for all your friends and loved ones.
Either way you need to know what you want. So start thinking about your new years eve ideas.

The celebrations on New Year's Eve start with revellers gathering around a bonfire in each quarter of the city. At midnight everyone watches a display of breathtaking fireworks.
Most then head down town to party until the early morning and many of the clubs offer live music until at least 5am the next day. It is really an experience you don't forget.

Destinations for New Years Eve in North and South America
Rio De Janeiro is the only place that has come to host the 2.5 million people who gather on its' beaches on December 31st.The hot weather, traditional drinks and the ever persistent sounds of drums and Samba that mixes with dancing and laughing are the reason so many people choose that location to spend the longest night of the year.
Once the sun starts sinking, at about 7 p.m. is when the true party starts. The entire sidewalk and Copacabana area is closed off to cars, and multiple stages are set up with live DJs and bands.
At midnight, an extravagant half hour display of fireworks light up the sky all along the beach and up to about 11 miles off the coast. Watching the display from the beach is one of the highlights of the night.
One of the best places to spend New Years Eve besides Rio De Janeiro is definitively New York. While New Year's Eve in Times Square may be the most famous celebration in this city, the Big Apple hosts hundreds of New Year's Eve parties each year. With just about every bar and New York City nightclub throwing their own party, tourists in town have a huge selection of events to choose from.
There is something for every taste, whether you prefer a wild New Year's Eve party or a more quiet, romantic restaurant to spend your time with a special someone. New York City is the perfect place to ring in ring in New Year's Eve with a bang.

You could have a theme party for example and make people dress up according to a time period like the 50's or 60's or a movie star themed party or even a pyjamas party. If you want to set up your house for New Years Eve you can create a centre of the room where you place a table that is the so-called bar, decorate it with confetti, serpentine throws and sparkles. Your drink table could consist of good quality champagne, white and red wine and the standard liquors such as rum, vodka and gin.
You will also have to take care of the food. You have to decide what you want to serve, a dinner, a buffet or even appetizers only. Depending on the choice you make you have to select the right drinks.
A party at home for New Years Eve can be a great idea and can bring you and your friends much closer.

- I spent NYE 2005 on Cooacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. It still sends shivers done my spine to think about it. It was just so amazing, indescribable. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous music, lovely, warm people, great fireworks. It was my best NYE ever (so far) and an experience I hope to relive another NYE.
