New York Tutor--The perks
Most teachers out there know that private tutoring is one of the best ways to make some extra cash. Hourly rates for tutors vary across the nation , but in New York, in particular, tutors can really make some good cash. On top of the money, tutoring isĀ usually very rewarding. You have the ability to really help a student improve, something that is much more difficult for a classroom teacher with 20 or 25 students to do.

- Nice article that really goes into depth about the money you can make tutoring in New York. Goes into depth about the specific regions in the greater New York metro regoion.
- New York Tutors
- If you want to be a New York Tutor or are looking for one, check out Hubalub. They are tutor finding service that I've used before and help connect tutors with clients. The cool thing about Hubalub is that they only accept certified public school teachers as tutors. This is different from many tutoring services that often let anyone who passes as a background check become a tutor. At Hubalub, you actually have to show them your teacher certification. This guarantees that your tutor will have had real classroom experience, training and will have had to pass several tests on content knowledge .

New York Tutoring-- How Much Money
A more in depth look
First off, the money side.
If you want to know how much money a tutor in this region makes, there is no single answer. High school tutors in well off areas like Westchester, Manhattan and White Plains generally don't go under $100, and if you can tutor a specialized topic like Advanced Placement Math in these upper end areas, you shouldn't take less than $125 an hour. There's an interesting mentality in many well off areas that goes like this: If a tutor doesn't charge much, then obviously she/he isn't very good. Again, I'd like to reiterate that that mentality only seems to apply to wealthy areas.
New York Tutoring--The inner rewards
It's obvious if you think about it. A teacher is constantly making choices about instruction that will reach certain portions of a class--maybe the 'smart' ones or the 'challenged' ones but , no matter how well a teacher differentiates, it's impossible to write lessons that reach every kid every day--no matter what the pedagogues say!.
As a tutor with 1 student, you can really focus your time and energy on analyzing the student's needs, weakness and dedicating yourself to shoring up that person's skills. The chances are--the student will improve.
