A-Rod Home Run Watch
Alex Rodriguez is on a home-run tear ... we'll keep track here
In the first 67 Yankee games this season A-Rod has already hit 27 home-runs and has a lofty 73 RBI's.with a batting average of .315A-Rod's 13th tied the AL record for April homers. The 14th homer broke that record and tied Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols for the MLB record for April home runs, set last season. A-Rod also became the fastest player to hit 14 homers, in 18 games.
As we all know these types of hitting spurts usually don't translate into year long trends but as it stands now, A-Rod is in position to take a run at Barry Bonds single season home-run record of 73 bombs.
To put it into perspective though, there have been other great starts that haven't resulted in challenging the record:
Fastest 10 home-runs:
Mike Schmidt, Phillies 1976, 12 games
Alex Rodriguez, Yankees 2007 14 games
Albert Pujols, Cardinals 2006 14 games
Luis Gonzalez, D-backs 2001 14 games
In my mind the difference just might be this years Yankee line-up which does not make it easy for pitchers to pitch around A-Rod. Every bat in the line-up is dangerous so A-Rod will usually get a pitch to hit each at bat.
We'll follow this and see how it goes but you can rest assured that baseball would love to see A-Rod eclipse Bond's tarnished record.
Will Yankee fans and his team-mates finally give Rodriguez a break if he continues this pace? Time will tell and we'll keep you posted.

Through 2006, Pettitte is 9th of all active major league players in win-loss percentage (.641); 13th in wins (186; all those ahead of him are older than he is); and 17th in strikeouts (1,703).

He was drafted by the Yankees in the 24th round of the 1990 amateur draft, and made his major league debut in 1995
Posada is a very patient hitter and has a good eye at the plate, his power is better from the left side. Made some changes last year to improve his throw outs but still drops too many catchable pitches. Game calling is still a work in progress especially with youger arms.

His .317 career batting average through the 2006 season ranks him with the 6th highest lifetime batting average of all active baseball players. He has been in the top seven in the American League in both hits and runs scored for nine of the past ten years. Alex Rodriguez ... Third Base
Alex Rodriguez is a very talented player whose accomplishments are often overshadowed by an enormous 250 million dollar contract, when signed the richest in sports history
2006 stats: .290 AVG, 572 AB, 113 R, 35 HR, 121 RBI, 90 BB, 139 SO,15 SB,.392 OBP, .523 SLGAlexander Emmanuel "Alex" Rodriguez (born July 27, 1975), commonly nicknamed A-Rod, is a Dominican-American baseball player, widely regarded as one of the best in the history of the game. He is the starting third baseman for the New York Yankees, having previously played shortstop for the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners.
Since his first full season in 1996 through 2006 he leads the major leagues in home runs (HR), runs scored, runs batted in (RBI), total bases and extra-base hits. Of all players in baseball history at age 30, he is first all-time in both HR and runs scored, 2nd in total bases and extra base hits, 3rd in RBI, and 4th in hits.
In his career to that point, Rodriguez had more HR, more RBI, more runs scored, and more base hits than all-time leaders Hank Aaron (HR and RBI), Rickey Henderson (runs scored), and Pete Rose (hits) did prior to their 30th birthdays.
He has often been cited as the best all-around player currently in baseball. Rodriguez is also known for signing the richest contract in sports history, a 10-year, $252 million deal.
There always seems to be controversy surrounding A-Rod especially his seemingly strained relationship with former close friend and now team mate Derek Jeter

Johnny Damon ... Centerfielder
Johnny Damon, once a mainstay and star player for New Yorks arch rival The Boston Red Sox signed a 4 year, 52 million dollar deal with the Yankees in 2005
2006 stats: .285 AVG, 593 AB, 115 R, 24 HR, 80 RBI, 67 BB, 85 SO, 25 SB, .359 OBP, .482 SLGJohnny David Damon (born November 5, 1973) is a star outfielder who plays center field for the New York Yankees. Since the 2000 season, he is 3rd among active major leaguers in runs (588), and 7th in hits (912) and stolen bases (153).
Damon's signing with the Yankees led to his being subsequently vilified by many Red Sox fans because of his previously professed loyalty to the city and Red Sox organization. Some fans called him "Johnny Demon" or "Judas Damon".
Damon often gets more press for his personal grooming habits than he does for his remarkable accomplishments on the playing field. He gained much notoriety with his flowing locks and abundant facial hair.
Hideki Matsui ... Left Fielder
Back From an Injury Plagued 2006 Season Matsui's Consistent Play Will be an Asset in 2007
2006 Stats: .302 AVG, 172 AB, 32 R, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 27 BB, 23 SO, .393 OBP, .494 SLGHideki Matsui (born June 12, 1974 in Neagari, Ishikawa, Japan) is a quality left fielder who bats left-handed and throws right-handed.
Matsui, nick named "Godzilla" signed a three-year contract with the New York Yankees on January 14, 2003. A parade was held for him in Tokyo to celebrate his signing with the Yankees and many reporters and photographers followed him to MLB from his home in Tokyo.
Matsui is a patient hitter who hits for good average and his power has continually improved since arriving in New York. In the field he charges balls well and has a quick release. If he can stay healthy this year he should add stability to the Yankee line-up.
