New World of Business

The business world has certainly changed over the last fifty- no, twenty- no, ten- no, five- no, TWO years! The environment is more challenging, the technology continues to develop and the competition is keener. What do we do to get ahead? We, the business owner, are always looking for ways to learn and grow our business. We have to do more, with less, faster. It is usually a struggle for survival and we strive to make progress.


Today, I wrote this on my Facebook page:
Today I will seize my opportunity to learn and to grow; to enrich my mind, body and spirit; to reach the next level of my personal development. Will you join me on this quest?



I am asking you the same question. Our business world depends on us. And, not just on a few of us. We must all contribute in some fashion. However we have changed over time, some things remain the same. Some will be the Kings, others knights and lots will be serfs. Some will be the hunters; others, the prey. Some will raise crops, some will forage, some will scavenge, some will become fertilizer.

I have been a busboy, a cook, a bartender. I have been a salesman and a regional manager. I have been a marketing communications expert and a communications professor. I became a marketing consultant and am now an internet marketing expert in Lakeland, FL.

Bob Dylan sang about "The Times They Are A' Changin' "in 1964. And they have never stopped changing. Neither have I or you. What concerns me is HOW we change. We must adapt or join the once-powerful T-Rex (the dinosaur or the band - you choose). Progress is no longer optional in the business world. We must make continual progress just to keep up with our environment.

So, I've devoted myself to the wonderful world of web marketing. Fourteen years ago, I dove headlong into the tangled electronic web. OK, maybe I was pushed. Anyway, I did dive deeper and deeper. I've been in intense training to transfer my accumulated knowledge skills and abilities in marketing, advertising, sales and public relations to today's digital world. And, it has opened up a whole new world of challenges and opportunities, When I started desktop publishing in 1988 and took Electronic Publishing during grad school in 1990, I knew that communication had taken a quantum leap forward. I couldn't imagine that it was just the beginning of a new world of business.

Today, we are in Web 2.0, I'm looking at it as if I am looking at the first GUI - the first time I saw a MacIntosh. I know that we are rushing headlong into a future that we cannot even imagine. How we live and work will never be the same.

I may never be King of this new world of business. I do have a trusty charger, a shiny suit of armor and a powerful swift sword. And, I know how to use them. So, I am riding forth at this dawn of a new day seeking new challenges. Will you join me? Will YOU be King? Or knight? Or serf? Or ...
