NFL Football Talk

The 2009 NFL season is three weeks old and going strong. There are already some surprise teams that have gotten off to good starts to their season.

As well as some surprises the other way as teams we thought would dominate are getting off to rough starts. First, let's look at some surprise teams that are doing well so far. One more thing! Scroll down to the bottom of this page and leave a comment on the guestbook if you like. Tell us who your favorite NFL team is.

Brett Favre Leading The Minnesota Vikings To 3-0

Favre Looking Good!

I can't remember: Is Brett Favre retired or playing? I'm kidding. But that's what football fans were saying in the off season. But, as we now know, Favre did end up signing with the Minnesota Vikings.

Last weekend the Minnesota Vikings were playing the San Francisco 49ers and were down 24-20 with about 10 seconds left in the game. Favre throws a hail mary in the end zone and the pass is caught for a touchdown. The Vikes go onto to win the game, 27-20. The Vikings are 3-0.

This is the exact reason the Vikings wanted Brett Favre! For games like this. Do you think that Tavaris Jackson could have brought the Vikings back against the 49ers? Uhhhhh...NO!

The main question for Brett Favre is can he stay healthy for the entire 2009 NFL season? The good news for Vikings' fans is that Brett Favre does not have to carry all the load. You see the Vikes have one of the best running backs in the NFL and his name is Adrian Peterson. Peterson takes a huge burden off of Favre and that's why the Vikings are the favorites to win the NFC North Division.

And football fans everywhere can hardly wait until next monday night. You see the Vikings will be playing this team from Green Bay called the Packers. Unless you have been living in a cave somewhere, you know that the Green Bay Packers are the team that Brett Favre played for from 1992-2007. A huge game on ESPN Monday Night Football coming up!

Vikings vs. Packers Tonight!

On ESPN Monday Night Football

10/5/09-Hey did you hear that there is a big NFL game tonight in Minneapolis, Minnesota? And it's on ESPN Monday Night Football? I only ask just in case some people reading this have been living in a cave for a while.lol!

But this is the night that Brett Favre will face his old Green Bay Packers team for the first time since leaving Green Bay. This game should be a lot of fun to watch, obviously. So many juicy tidbits from this game.

Not to mention Favre, also Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will have something to prove as well. He won't admit it, but you just know that Rodgers wants to stick it to Favre and the Vikings.

And that won't be an easy task as the Vikings are playing well with Favre and Peterson leading the way. Game starts in 2 hours. I can hardly wait!

10/5/09-Favre And The Vikings Beat The Packers.

Brett Favre and the Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers tonight 30-23 on ESPN Monday Night Football.

Favre looked spectacular as he threw for 271 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Favre turns 40 years old on saturday but he still has a 25 year old arm.

Aaron Rodgers wasn't too bad either as he passed for 384 yards with 2 touchdowns and one interception. Jared Allen was a monster for the Vikings all game as he was on Rodgers all the time and had 4 1/2 sacks. Great game!

Mark Sanchez And The New York Jets

Mark Sanchez is shining so far!

Okay, usually when an NFL team brings in a new coach with a whole new system, and then they draft a rookie quarterback and name him as their starter, most likely it is going to be a struggle for a while. But not the New York Jets!

The Jets brought in a new coach in Rex Ryan (Buddy's son) and drafted USC quarterback Mark Sanchez in the 2009 NFL Draft. You figure, alright, they are building for the future, not bad.

But what is this? The Jets are off to a 3-0 start and lead the AFC East division over the mighty New England Patriots. In fact, the Jets beat the Patriots in week two, 16-9.

Mark Sanchez is off to a fabulous start to his young career. Here is what he has done so far in 3 NFL games. He has completed 49 of 83 passes. He has 606 passing yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. And he is averaging 202 passing yards per game. Not a bad start for a rookie QB with a lot of pressure on him!

Now let's talk about their new coach, Rex Ryan. I love this guy! He is just like his dad Buddy was. A defensive genius! Rex and his defense completely shut down Tom Brady and the Pats in week 2. And guess what? Rex is not here to kiss Bill Belichick's rings..lol! He is here to win! And it looks like his New York Jets' players have bought into Rex and they love him too! Now let's see if they can keep it up. Still a long way to go in 2009. But, no doubt about it, the Jets are heading in the right direction.

Denver Broncos

Broncos 3-0 Start

When the Denver Broncos hired young head coach Josh McDaniel in the off-season, there was immediate trouble between him and quarterback Jay Cutler. Eventually Cutler was traded to the Chicago Bears.

When Cutler got traded everyone assumed (me included) that the Broncos were done in 2009 and the season hadn't even started yet! Boy was I wrong!

The Broncos are 3-0 and are off to a hot start. The only problem is the teams they have played may have something to with it. Also, a little luck in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. A freak play in the Bengals game was when a tipped pass ended up in the hands of Brandon Stokely and he scored a TD in the last seconds of the game.

Now here is the only flaw in the Broncos success so far in 2009. They have played the Cleveland Browns and the Oakland Raiders. Two of the worst teams in the NFL. But now the fun is over for Denver because they have got a tough schedule of games coming up. Here are the five teams that they will play next. They will play the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. Now if they can get some wins against any of these teams, then I will be impressed. They could go 0-5. Stay tuned!

Cincinnati Bengals' QB Carson Palmer Healthy Again

Should be 3-0

If not for a freak play in week one against the Denver Broncos, the Cincinnati Bengals would have a 3-0 record right now. They are 2-1.

This team is for real as long as quarterback Carson Palmer remains healthy. And right now he is healthy. He and Chad Johnson (Ocho Cinco) are a deadly 1-2 punch for any defense to handle. The Bengals are coming off an impressive win against the 2008 Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-20.

This is kind of a surprise because the Bengals lost wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (now with Seattle) to free agency. Look for the Bengals to be right there at the top of the AFC North Division. Like was said before, it all depends if Carson can stay healthy.

Joe Flacco And The Baltimore Ravens 3-0

The Baltimore Ravens have also got off to a quick start and are 3-0 as well. Sophomore quarterback Joe Flacco has been steady.

Now two of the Ravens' wins are against some bad teams in Kansas City and Cleveland. They did beat the Chargers in San Diego, which is always impressive.

But now the schedule gets a little tougher for the Ravens. Their next three games are against the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, and Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. These games will show us exactly how good Baltimore is.

New York Giants

3-0 Start

Not surprisingly, Eli Manning and the New York Giants have started the 2009 NFL season 3-0. I say not surprisingly because the Giants are expected to do well and they have shown it.

The Giants went in to Dallas and spoiled the Cowboys party by winning the game. The Cowboys were playing the first official game ever in their new Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Giants will most likely go to 5-0 as their next two games are against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders. Two bad teams. The next real test the Giants will have will be three weeks from now when the face off against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees lighting it up!

Yeah I know that 2 of the three wins by the New Orleans Saints are against the lowly Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles minus Donovan McNabb, but it's still impressive the numbers the Saints are putting up so far.

Drew Brees has been an absolute beast on offense. Check out his numbers through 3 games. He has 841 passing yards with 9 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. And his QB rating is an incredible 118.1. The Saints are for real. They have a huge game tomorrow against Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets. Both teams are 3-0. Should be a blast to see how Rex Ryan's Jets' defense attempts to slow down Drew Brees and the Saints' offense.

San Francisco 49ers

I hate Brett Favre!

Growing up in Sacramento, California my favorite NFL team was, and still is, the San Francisco 49ers. I've been to Candlestick many times to watch Montana, Rice, and Steve Young. My Niners have been down for a while but they are heading in the right direction!

And the best step the 49ers took was hiring Mike Singletary as their head coach. I love Singletary. He doesn't take any garbage from anyone and he expects his players to play hard. And I think the players like Singletary too because they are responding well.

Now lets talk about last week's game (If we must). The Niners should be 3-0 if not for some guy named Favre in Minnesota. Favre thew a TD with 2 seconds left that beat my 49ers. Ok, I talked about it. I call it therapy for me..lol!

Oh, one more thing. Michael Crabtree, will you please sign a freakin contract already!!?? You're only hurting yourself by sitting out!

Now the not-so-good-teams!

Oakland Raiders

Two words sum up the Oakland Raiders...THEY STINK! And as long as they have Al Davis (see picture to the right if you dare) as owner and JaMarcus Russell as their quarterback, this team is going no where fast. But Mr. Davis continues to stick with his guy Russell at QB.

You just know that head coach Tom Cable wants to put another QB in there but he is just a "puppet" for Al Davis. Al calls the shots!

Look at these garbage numbers that Russell is putting up. In 3 games He has a total of 378 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. And his QB rating is a horrible 41.3.

The thing is, the Raiders have a pretty good defense and if they had a half decent player at quarterback, they would be more competitive. But JaMarcus Russell could be heading down the same road that Ryan Leaf went down. A high draft pick that ends up being a huge bust!

10/4/09-Week 4 Scores

Bears vs. Lions

Well, I think Jay Cutler is finally comfortable in a Chicago Bears' uniform! I know they were playing the horrible Detroit Lions.

Cutler and the Bears crushed the Lions 48-24. He didn't put up huge numbers but he didn't throw any interceptions either. That's always a good thing because Cutler is known for throwing dumb INT's sometimes. He had 141 yards passing with 2 touchdowns.

He didn't need to have big passing numbers because he got a lot of help from running back Matt Forte, who rushed for 121 yards with 1 touchdown on 12 rushing attempts. With each passing game, Bears' fans everywhere will forget more and more about Rex Grossman, who was got awful as the Bears QB.

The Bears moved to 3-1 and the Lions drop to 1-3.

Colts vs. Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks played the Colts without their starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. And you know what? It wouldn't have made any difference even if Hasselbeck was playing. The Seahawks aren't even close to being as good as the Indianapolis Colts. And it showed as they got smoked 34-17.

The Colts have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time in Peyton Manning. Peyton had another super game with huge numbers.

He passed for a whopping 353 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Manning also completed 31 of 41 passes. Manning is just a super, super player. And a good guy! The Colts are 4-0 and the Seahawks are now 1-3 under new head coach Jim Mora, Jr.

Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins spanked the Buffalo Bills 38-10 sunday as Dolphins' running back Ronnie Brown ran wild. He torched the Bills' defense for 115 yards on 20 attempts with 2 touchdowns.

UH-OH! You know what this means! Terrell Owens is not happy. And we all know what happens when TO is not happy. He starts throwing people under the bus. Mainly Quarterbacks. So watch your back Trent Edwards.

Edwards was awful as he threw for 192 yards with a touchdown and 3 interceptions. Owens had 3 cathes for 60 yards. The Bills dropped to 1-3 while the Dolphins "improved" to 1-3 with their first win of the season.

Saints vs. Jets

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez tasted defeat for the first time in his young NFL career sunday as his Jets lost to the New Orleans Saints 24-10.

Sanchez had his worst day as a pro as he passed for just 138 yards with no touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees didn't have a huge game either. Brees passed for only 190 yards with no touchdowns. This game was won on defense by the saints. The Saints Darren Sharper had two interceptions. Including a huge run back for a touchdown.

The Saints improve to 4-0 and the Jets drop to 3-1.

Cowboys vs. Broncos

Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall had a solid game as the Denver Broncos beat the Dallas Cowboys 17-10.

Marshall caught the game winning touchdown in the fourth quarter and seal the win.
Marshall 4 receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Broncos' quarterback Kyle Orton wasn't bad either as he had 243 passing yard with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Cowboys dropped to 2-2 while the Broncos improve to 4-0.

10/23/09-Some Big Surprises So Far Going Into NFL Week #7

Broncos biggest Surprise.

It's been a little while since I updated this lens. Some big games have come and gone since then.

One of the biggest games was last monday night when the Denver Broncos went to San Diego and played the Chargers.
I still can't believe the Broncos won that game, 34-23.

The Broncos have to be the biggest surprise in the NFL as their record sits at 6-0. Who would have thought that coming out of training camp? Not me!

I mean, they hired a new coach, they traded their franchise quarterback Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, Brandon Marshall wanted out
of Denver. It was a mess, so I thought.

Now things have totally turned around! Kyle Orton has played great at quarterback, Brandon Marshall is having a huge season and he wants to be there now. New head coach Josh McDaniel has had a huge impact on these guys.
they even beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Unreal! We shall see how the rest of the 2009 season turns out for the Denver Broncos. So far, so good.

Jets' QB Mark Sanchez Has His Worst Game As A Pro.

Jets Now 3-3

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had his worst game of his young NFL career last week as the Jets lost to the lowly
Buffalo Bills, 16-13.

Sanchez played absolutely awful as he threw 5 interceptions and completed only 10 of 29 passes for a measley 119 yards.
Hopefully we can chalk this up as a learning expereince for the kid because I still believe he is going to be a pretty good
quarterback in the NFL.

With the loss, the Jets drop to 3-3 on the season. There may be hope as Sanchez and the Jets play the "Not So Good" Oakland Raiders this coming sunday. The Raiders are coming off a VERY surprising win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

2009 NFL Football talk. Brett Favre and Vikings, Mark Sanchez and the Jets doing well so far.
