Best Cornerback Prospect
With the old results having Blaine Gabbert with a slight lead... I thought I would reset the poll. Originally Mallett had the advantage in this poll, but as his game is, the thought on who is the best quarterback this year is streaky.

Generally this will be a place where readers will critique our mock. We get everything from great mock, to there is no way the Broncos draft a running back (2009: Moreno), and even things that are helpful to us they we may have not been aware of. Sometimes readers will help us make our next mock by giving advice. As a part of our new mock system we will attempt to give credit to readers who give us advice and ultimately change the way we see the draft going. So go ahead... Start Critiquing

- I don't put too much stock in Top Draft picks. Most of the 1st Round, especially the Top 10, is mostly hype. Plenty of HOF players have been passed by team after team, before someone picks them up. If a team trades down, they'll save some money and pick up a few more quality players.

- If you think the Patriots are going to draft a running back with suspect knees in the first round, I want some of what you're smokin'. Belichik realizes that the run game, while important, is not as vital a cog as it used to be. More to the point, without good blocking (read OG like Pouncey) runners such as the law firm and Woodhead don't keep defenses honest. It's much more likely that they will draft a RB later, as a complement to BJGE and Woodhead.

- You should include potential trades.... such as The Pats (with picks 28 and 33) trading one of these picks to say ARIZ (who miss on the top 2 QBs early in Rd 1) so they can draft Mallett or Locker before someone else (LIKE CINCY) grabs the guy they really want.
Or maybe use the Jets who trade up every year (to grab Revis, Harris, Keller, Sanchez, and Shonn Green - and that is just 3 of the last 4 years) trade up to grab a Cameron Heyward or something. Jets trade their first and next years 2 to move up 10 spots...
Just saying...

- If the Browns don't take Julio Jones (assuming he's still available at that time), I will be disappointed. Jones has proven he has the physical attributes to play at the next level. He has proven that he can produce in an offense that has quality backs and he knows how to make plays after he catches the ball. McCoy will be a better QB, and Hillis would have some room to run (which he needs if we look at the final few games of last season) if they Browns get a receiver in the draft. Even if Green is available at that spot, I think the Browns have to take Jones (or even trade down to get him later). Green is another Edwards (IMO), and the Browns need someone who will work. I think that adds up to Jones for them.

2012 Positional Rankings
Preview of the new site: QB
The Quarterback position is a very important one in the NFL. The NFL is a "Quarterback Driven" League. A QB whom is safe with the football can take a team with a great defense to the playoffs... but a QB whom is cautious with the football on an average defense will probably win 6 games at most during the year.Teams with great Quarterbacks are the playoff teams in the league on a consistent basis. Think Patriots, Colts, Brett Favre's teams, the 49ers of the 80's and 90's. Rookie Quarterbacks typically have a tough time in their first season... but recently Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Mark Sanchez and Ben Roethlisberger have had success in their first season.
How a QB will perform in their first season is based on millions of factors... the talent around them... the system... the defense etc. Here are the top Quarterbacks in the 2012 draft class
Andrew Luck: Stanford

NFL Draft Trade Value Chart
try to work a trade for your team.

Trade value charts are different for each team based on which players they have value for on their big board. However, this is a widely accepted chart that is used by some teams and by nearly everyone in the media to assess the value being exchanged when trades are going down in the NFL, and more particularly on draft day.

Events that will effect our Mock
Prior to the draft

P Prior to the NFL Draft in late April... players go through evaluations and change value. Simultaneously, teams go through personnel changes and their needs change. Here is a list of some events that have yet to occur and events that have occurred and how they impacted the draft.
Free agency - March 4th - Where the top free agents land and how teams fill their needs will directly affect what that team does on draft day. For instance, a team like the 49ers have several pressing needs - OT, CB, SS, G, KR and possibly more depending on where their free agents sign. If they get an offensive tackle and a safety in free agency... they are likely to select a corner, Guard and a dynamic kick returner high in the draft. If a team fills a lot of their needs in free agency... they will have the luxury of taking the BPA (Best Player Available) in the draft at their selection.
The NFL Scouting Combine - February 23rd - March 1st - the scouting combine provides teams with the chance to interview and discover what physical talents each one of the 325 players invited possesses. Here is a top ten list (NFL.com) of players that can dramatically change their draft status with a good performance at the combine.
The Senior Bowl - An all-star game where only seniors are invited. It is held in Mobile, Alabama in late January. It is a great opportunity for the players to show they are better than the competition because they are going against the best of the best. In addition to the game, the practice is a great opportunity for the players to work with NFL coaches and get a feel for what the NFL will be like. Also, it allows coaches to evaluate how the player responds to their coaching style. Last year, Jacksonville and Cincinnati coached the two teams in Mobile.
