Many people complain that niche marketing doesn't work, it does if you do it correctly. The solution to the problem is finding people who are ready to buy. Often times you will get quite a few hits, but only a few buyers. Some are looking and some are ready to purchase. The whole concept of niche marketing research is finding a hungry market and targeting your sales efforts to the ones who are ready to buy.

So you have decided to get into internet marketing, and why not it is a great way for a newbie to get their feet wet. Internet marketing is not all that hard, it only looks that way in the beginning. The first thing you'll need to do is decide what your niche market will be. This is a very important first step. Determine the market first. A lot of people go about this wrong, they choose the product first and then try and "fit it in". This really doesn't work too well. What you are aiming for here is a targeted market and if you don't choose your market first you may have trouble implementing your product in a market where it doesn't quite fit. Niche market research helps you to pinpoint your focus for highly targeted traffic.

When starting to research your market, take a look at Google first. You may already have a good idea for a niche market and if so here's your chance to check it out. Go to Wordtracker or Google adwords keyword tool and type in your keyword phrase into the search box. It can be just a keyword too because we are going to dig deep for long-tail keywords anyway.Look at the results for that keyword; is there a lot of searches? Meaning more or less, is it a popular topic? If so continue scrolling down to some of the related keywords and see how many results they have. So when you think you have found a good niche market, type in the subject or the keyphrases you came up with and see what comes up in Google.How results did it return? The results are at the top of the page. This is how many pages of content you will be competing with. In order to get onto the first 2 pages of Google you need to use keywords with low competition. This is why you look for less popular keywords for your market. If you will be doing article marketing for your niche product, this will be very important to you. Making it onto the first page of Google is the goal if you want to have your pages read. A good thing to do is to change the keywords in the searches to see which ones have fewer competing pages. There is no absolute number for competing pages but I myself like to have that number as low as possible.

That means that your keywords are less popular than the ones everybody else is using. - I use my local library to do research on niche markets. The trade publications and journals offer a wealth of current information on trending markets and topics.
The vertical publications subscription fee is paid by the library, thus saying me hundreds of dollars a year in out of pocket subscription fees.

- I do most of my niche marketing research at my local library because of the many trade publications that are current and free to read or checkout. If I were to subscribe to just a few of these vertical publications it would cost me several hundred dollars a year.
