How do I find my niche?

Well, as you can obviously see, I didn't find my niche in graphic design. It wouldn't make sense for me to try to pick something I am totally awful at to use as my niche.

Are you having trouble finding yours? Let me help you. It may not be as hard as you think.

Finding a Good Niche

I don't even know what a niche is!

A niche is a certain segment of the population where you intend to concentrate your efforts. That pretty much sums it up. You are looking for a group of people that want what you have, basically.

If you look into the last paragraph you should be able to find a good way to find a niche. The best way, actually.

Think about it. When is the last time you were in a room and people were in awe, or even envious of the skills you possessed? Can you go as far as to say the people in the room would pay money to be able to do what you are doing right now? Or maybe they would pay money to obtain the knowledge you are exhibiting? I know you are good at a lot of things, but what are you truly GREAT at?

I can give you an example. For some people this will hit home and for others it will not at all, but the bottom line is, this is a perfect example.

When I was in college I had no job and a whole lot of free time on my hands. While other college students joined fraternities, study groups, and other productive things, I played video games. One in particular, by the name of Madden 06. This is a football game based on the real players and teams of the NFL.

Well, the objective of everyone who came over was to "beat Tay at madden." Tay being me.

Needless say, endless amounts of nobodies and has-beens made their way to my place, always anxious to be next in line for their beating. The line never ended.

After a while, I started wagering money on my skills, and used it to make some serious income on the side. This led me to think, maybe I can teach people to play for even more income.

So I sat down and put my strategy in writing. I wrote a 20 page e-book on the ins and outs of having success at Madden. Then I started promoting my book online. At this point, there weren't many e-books out there, and none were as comprehensive as mine.

Over the next few months I was able to earn over $5,000! I didn't even know what affiliate marketing or a niche was at the time, but subconsciously I had found a great way to find a good niche.

It doesn't matter what you are good at, there are people out there dying to be able to do what you do. Quit trying to force yourself into what you think is a "hot niche." There are millions and millions of people on the internet, so there are sure to be people out there that will share your passion.
